🔍 Gold Price Action 🔍
The NFP data removed the certainty of a September rate hike, but not the possibility. Warsh is unlikely to abandon the fight against inflation based on a single jobs report, especially with Core PCE still running at 3.4%.
Although real yields have eased slightly, they remain above 2%.
June NFP came in at 57,000 jobs, less than half the 110,000 consensus and the weakest reading in four months. In addition, previous months were revised sharply lower:
* May: 129,000 (from 172,000)
* April: 148,000 (from 179,000)
More importantly, the unemployment rate fell to 4.2% because the labor force participation rate dropped to 61.5%—its lowest level since March 2021—not because of stronger job creation.
For now, I'm watching the afternoon session from 14:00 onward.
Ideally, I'd like to see price sweep the Asian session low and fill the daily imbalance.
I would prefer price not to trade below Thursday's NFP zone at 4,130–4,110, now that the macro backdrop has shifted following the NFP release.
Bias: Neutral, cautiously bullish.
