[blackcat] L2 Zero Lag Hull Moving Average

7 330
Zero Lag Hull Moving Average (ZLHMA) is a technical indicator that is based on the principles of Zero Lag Hull Moving Average (HMA). It is designed to provide a smoother and more accurate representation of price trends by reducing lag and improving the responsiveness of the moving average line.

Compared to traditional moving average lines, the Zero Lag Hull Moving Average has the advantage of being able to capture price trend changes more precisely. It achieves this by utilizing a higher degree of smoothness through the use of weighted moving averages, and by incorporating the calculation method of Hull Moving Average (HMA) to further eliminate lag.

The calculation process of the Zero Lag Hull Moving Average involves two main steps. First, the Hull Moving Average (HMA) is calculated by taking the difference between two weighted moving averages applied to the price data. This helps to smooth out the price fluctuations and reduce lag. Then, the difference between two weighted moving averages is applied once again to the HMA, resulting in the Zero Lag Hull Moving Average. This final step further enhances the accuracy and timeliness of the indicator.

The Zero Lag Hull Moving Average offers several advantages for traders. Firstly, it provides a quicker response to changes in price trends, allowing traders to make more timely and informed trading decisions. This can be particularly useful in fast-moving markets where speed is crucial. Secondly, by reducing lag, the Zero Lag Hull Moving Average helps traders avoid missing important market signals and potential trading opportunities. It provides a more accurate representation of the current market conditions, enabling traders to act with greater confidence.

However, it is important to note that the Zero Lag Hull Moving Average should not be used as the sole basis for making trading decisions. It is recommended to consider other technical indicators, as well as fundamental and market analysis, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the market dynamics. Traders should also conduct thorough backtesting and validation of their trading strategies to ensure their effectiveness.

In conclusion, the Zero Lag Hull Moving Average is a powerful tool that can enhance the accuracy and responsiveness of technical analysis. By reducing lag and providing a more accurate representation of price trends, it can assist traders in making better-informed trading decisions. However, it should be used in conjunction with other indicators and analysis methods for a comprehensive approach to trading.

OVERVIEW
The [blackcat] L2 Zero Lag Hull Moving Average (ZLHMA) is an advanced moving average designed to minimize lag and provide more timely signals compared to traditional moving averages. This indicator combines the benefits of Hull Moving Averages (HMAs) with additional smoothing techniques to enhance accuracy and responsiveness. It plots the ZLHMA line along with trigger lines and labels for clear buy and sell signals 📊✅.

FEATURES

Calculates the Zero Lag Hull Moving Average (ZLHMA) using a combination of weighted moving averages and smoothing techniques:
Length: Defines the period over which the moving average is calculated.
Smoothness: Adjusts the degree of smoothing applied to the HMA.
Plots two lines on the chart:
ZLHMA Line: Blue line representing the main moving average.
Trigger Line: Fuchsia line acting as a reference for crossover signals.
Displays buy ('B') and sell ('S') labels on the chart for quick identification 🏷️
Generates alerts based on crossover events between the ZLHMA and Trigger Lines 🔔
Fills the area between the ZLHMA and Trigger Lines for better visualization of trend direction:
HOW TO USE

Add the indicator to your TradingView chart by selecting it from the indicators list.
Adjust the Length and Smoothness parameters to fine-tune the sensitivity of the indicator ⚙️.
Observe the plotted ZLHMA and Trigger Lines on the chart to identify potential trade opportunities.
Use the buy and sell labels as signals for entering or exiting positions.

█ OVERVIEW

The blackcat L2 Zero Lag Hull Moving Average V2 is a fast-reacting trend overlay that applies a double zero-lag transform to the Hull Moving Average, flipping earlier than a standard HMA at turning points. V2 keeps the original algorithm untouched and adds signal governance, ATR-based TP/SL reference levels, a position dashboard, state background coloring and a complete alert toolkit.

█ CONCEPTS

The script builds a Hull MA, then runs the same zero-lag re-smoothing a second time:

 • Hull MA: ta.wma(2 * ta.wma(src, len / 2) - ta.wma(src, len), round(sqrt(len)))
 • Zero-lag pass: the HMA output is re-processed with the same 2 * WMA(len / 2) - WMA(len) identity, scaled by the Smoothness input
 • Momentum read: the ZLHMA is plotted against its own one-bar trigger line; a flip of the line over its trigger marks a momentum turn

Because the transform is symmetrical, turning points surface as clean crossovers between the ZLHMA and its previous value.

█ HOW TO USE

1 — Add the script to any chart; it overlays price with the ZLHMA, trigger line and momentum fill.
2 — Read B labels as bullish momentum flips and S labels as bearish flips; background shading tracks the governing position state.
3 — Optionally anchor stops and targets to the projected SL/TP reference lines.
4 — Create alerts from the Buy Alert / Sell Alert conditions, or use any-alert with alert() messages that include symbol, timeframe and price.

Input Parameters
 • Length (default 14): base lookback of the inner Hull MA.
 • Smoothness (default 3): depth of the zero-lag re-smoothing.
 • Enable Signal Governance (default on): state machine plus cooldown filter; off restores the raw V1 signal flow.
 • Cooldown Bars (default 3): minimum bar spacing between signals; 0 disables the cooldown.
 • Show TP/SL Reference Levels (default on): project ATR-scaled stop and target lines from the last signal price.
 • ATR Length (default 14): lookback of the ATR used for risk levels.
 • Stop Loss / Take Profit (default 2.0 / 3.0 x ATR): distance multipliers.
 • Show B/S Signal Labels, Show Position Background, Show Dashboard (default on): visual toggles.
 • Bull / Bear Color: label and background color scheme.

█ FEATURES

 • Double zero-lag Hull transform — the V1 math, preserved line-for-line
 • Signal governance: a position state machine plus a configurable cooldown filter same-direction repeats
 • ATR-based SL/TP reference lines drawn with line-break styling, hidden while flat
 • Live dashboard: position state, ZLHMA value, ATR and current SL/TP references
 • Grouped inputs with tooltips and max_labels_count management
 • alertcondition() entries plus dynamic alert() messages firing once per bar close

█ SIGNALS

Visual Elements
 • B label (green): ZLHMA crossed above its trigger — bullish flip
 • S label (red): ZLHMA crossed below its trigger — bearish flip
 • Yellow / fuchsia fill: rising / falling momentum
 • Green / red background: governing long / short state
 • Red line: stop-loss reference; teal line: take-profit reference

█ IMPLEMENTATION NOTES

 • Built from ta.wma, ta.atr and crossover logic only — no request.security and no higher-timeframe lookahead; dynamic alerts fire once per confirmed bar close
 • WMA lengths are floored at 1 internally, so extreme inputs (Length = 1 or Smoothness = 1) no longer raise the zero-length WMA runtime error that V1 could produce
 • V1's duplicated plot was removed; alert semantics preserved and upgraded with dynamic messages

█ LIMITATIONS

 • Trend-following by nature: expect whipsaws in flat, ranging markets — the cooldown mitigates but cannot eliminate them
 • Signals below the 5-minute timeframe are noisier; raise Length or Smoothness to compensate
 • TP/SL lines are reference projections from the signal bar, not order management

█ NOTES

 • Original algorithm by blackcat1402 (V1, MPL 2.0); V2 polishing keeps the core math untouched
