Naturally, we do not want to see red in our portfolio but it is inevitable when you understand the game. Stock market does not move in a linear fashion but with corrections , sideways market and spikes to excite or depress as well. For the untrained eyes, all charts look the same. As they said, the devil is in the details. Go look at the hourly chart of Silver or any commodity and you will understand what I mean by seeing green now and red later. So, dont count your money too soon, haha.
On the contrary, if you understand and have done your due diligence, then you should really be happy because you want to own more shares of such great company. And you want to do it when the price is depressed like now or maybe a while longer. Buy it at a discount when the market corrects and NOT because there is any fundamental flaws with the company.
So back to the chart, had you sold your shares during the one year period of holding and wants to buy back now, regardless, you have to take into consideration of the past 70+ per cent jump in returns that would had been yours had you stayed in the game.
Then, you bought at 3100 and begin to see red in your portfolio daily and the same old thinking kicks in. Oh, what did I get myself into ? What dumb luck ? Others are making millions and here I am.......on and on.......
Assuming 3000 or so price level happens in 2019 and projecting 2021 and beyond, we could see another 70 or more percent jump, would you want to buy then ? Now, because we don't know the future, we are relying on historical data to aid us in our decision. And that is why having a sound knowledge of charting + fundamental analysis of the company is key to investing.
Charting provides me the big picture of when to get in, where to put my stop loss and projected target but the story behind support this data point is the economic moat, the increasing revenue, the vision of the leaders, the global trend and many more elements taken into consideration.
Gain or pain is like the flip side of the same coin. The coin is in your hands and how you deal with it is really up to you. Toss it away (sell) and it is another man treasure!
