Friends, hello.Hims & Hers and Novo Nordisk have officially announced a partnership. The deal is closed despite recent legal disputes between the companies.
Novo Nordisk will sell its weight loss drugs through the Hims & Hers platform. For Hims, this means access to original medications and relief from regulatory risks. For Novo, it's access to an audience of over 2 million subscribers and a sales channel without competition from generics.
Just in February, Novo filed a lawsuit against Hims for infringing patent rights on semaglutide. The trigger was Hims launching a copycat version of Wegovy in pill form. Under regulatory pressure, Hims halted sales. A year earlier, a similar agreement had already fallen through: Hims refused to stop selling compounded versions of Novo's drugs even after the US shortage ended.
The market responded with gains. Hims stock surged 40%. Novo shares added about 2%. Eli Lilly, Novo's main competitor in the GLP-1 segment, remained unchanged.
Novo had previously partnered with Ro and Weight Watchers without conflicts. Regulatory pressure on Hims continues: the company is being investigated by the SEC. The partnership with Novo reduces these risks and legitimizes the company's presence in the weight loss drug segment.
