SPX: S&P 500 Pumps 1% as Traders Snap Up Shares of Just About Everything but Nvidia

Pontos principais:
  • S&P 500 rises on AI reshuffle
  • Nvidia drops, Google pops
  • Dow Jones steals the show

Nvidia got challenged after Google unveiled it’s getting ready to start selling custom TPU chips to Meta.

📈 Broad-Market Buying Spree

  • The S&P 500 (SPX) pumped nearly 1% Tuesday as traders bought just about anything with a ticker symbol. Except for Nvidia. Eight of the index’s 11 sectors climbed, with healthcare leading the charge and defensive names suddenly looking like momentum stocks.
  • The Dow ripped 664 points, its best day since August, showing that investors weren’t just nibbling – they were stress-eating equities. The Nasdaq joined in, albeit modestly, rising 0.7% as mega-cap tech lagged.
  • The tone was simple: if it wasn’t an AI chip giant facing fresh competition, it probably rallied. Broad participation like this usually signals traders hunting for value beyond the same overworked tech favorites.

🤖 Nvidia Trips as Google Muscles In

  • Nvidia NVDA slid 2.6% after surrendering a deeper intraday loss, making it Tuesday’s problem. Traders blamed one thing: Google’s growing ambitions in the chip arena.
  • Alphabet GOOGL jumped more than 1% (and as much as 3.2% early) after reports that Meta is in talks to spend billions on Google’s custom TPUs (tensor processing units), AI-optimized chips designed to compete directly with Nvidia’s GPUs.
  • More supply of high-end AI chips means more competition for Nvidia’s sky-high margins. Even the world’s most valuable company can feel the sting when another giant says, “We’ll build our own hardware.”

🏗️ Alphabet Eyes $4T as Chip Story Builds

  • Alphabet keeps climbing toward a $4 trillion valuation, extending a months-long rally powered by cloud growth, AI tools and now its burgeoning chip business. You just got to love a tech titan with multiple profit engines.
  • The Google parent boosted semiconductor production last year, a move that reduces reliance on outside vendors and gives it more leverage with partners like Meta.
  • As money rotates out of Nvidia and into its rivals, Alphabet emerges as the day’s clean winner. With chip demand exploding and big tech diversifying supply chains, the AI hardware race suddenly looks far less predictable.
