Crazy ORB V2.1 NQ Breakout Optimization

Crazy ORB V2.1 – Precision Opening Range Breakout Strategy for NQ on 5min Chart
Overview
Crazy ORB V2.1 is an automated Opening Range Breakout (ORB) trading strategy designed to identify high-quality breakout opportunities using volatility-based confirmation, candle strength, and breakout extension filters.
The strategy focuses on the opening range established between 9:00 AM and 9:15 AM Eastern Time, then looks for confirmed directional breakouts during the regular trading session.
Rather than entering on every opening-range breakout, Crazy ORB uses multiple confirmation filters to help avoid weak breakouts, premature entries, and excessively extended price moves.
Strategy Methodology
1. Opening Range Identification
Establishes the opening range using the 9:00–9:15 AM New York session.
Records the session high and low.
Uses these levels as the primary breakout reference points.
2. ATR-Based Breakout Buffer
Requires price to break beyond the opening-range high or low.
Uses a 0.20 ATR breakout buffer to require additional price movement beyond the range.
Helps filter marginal breakouts and potential false signals.
3. Strong Candle Confirmation
Requires a minimum candle body percentage of 55%.
Long entries require bullish candle confirmation.
Short entries require bearish candle confirmation.
4. Maximum Breakout Extension Filter
Uses a 1.2 ATR maximum extension setting.
Helps prevent entries when price has already moved too far from the opening-range boundary.
Designed to avoid chasing excessively extended breakout moves.
5. ATR-Based Risk Management
Uses a 14-period Average True Range.
Initial protective stop is calculated using a 1.5 ATR multiple.
Position sizing is calculated using a configurable dollar risk budget.
Includes adjustable minimum and maximum contract limits.
6. Fixed Profit Target
Uses a configurable take-profit target.
Default setting: 50 ticks.
Long and short positions use separate calculated profit targets.
7. Trading Session Controls
Opening range: 9:00–9:15 AM ET.
Entry window: 9:30 AM–11:00AM ET.
Maximum of two trades per day by default.
Automatically closes open positions at the configured end-of-day time.
