AVAV Multiday Options Trade Opportunity

234
AVAV is one of the more interesting earnings setups I’m watching this week — not because I think historical earnings can tell us which direction the next move will go, but because the last five earnings reactions all developed into fairly substantial multi-day moves.

That distinction matters.

I am not using prior earnings to predict Green or Red.

I’m using them to ask a different question:

If AVAV establishes a strong post-earnings direction, is there enough evidence to believe that move could persist for several days — potentially even weeks?

I think the answer is yes.

That is why I extended this scenario map roughly three weeks instead of treating earnings as a one-session event.

Green Scenario — Bullish Repricing

If earnings produce a constructive reaction and price begins accepting above the current structure, I would look for the move to develop through the next major decision areas.

The first important upside references are around:

$149 → $161 → $174

A clean break and acceptance through those levels could indicate that AVAV is beginning another larger repricing cycle rather than simply producing a one-day earnings spike.

I would not chase the initial candle.

The better opportunity may come after the market shows that the new higher price is being accepted.

Yellow Scenario — No Sustained Trend

Not every earnings reaction has to become a major directional move.

AVAV could initially move, then spend the following sessions negotiating around the current $143–$149 structure.

If price remains trapped around these decision areas without establishing acceptance in either direction, I would have little interest in forcing a multiday trade.

No sustained trend = no reason to manufacture one.

Red Scenario — Bearish Repricing

A negative earnings reaction that loses the current $143–$145 structure could create the opposite opportunity.

What interests me here is not simply a gap down.

I would want to see sellers maintain control after the initial repricing and begin establishing lower structure.

If that happens, the historical behavior suggests the first earnings move may not necessarily be the entire move.

That could create an opportunity to participate in a continued downside trend over several sessions rather than trying to capture everything immediately after the print.

Why I’m Looking at This Differently

My normal trading strategy is primarily short-duration options, often 0DTE.

A multiday earnings position is a completely different trade and should be treated that way.

My normal 0DTE framework allows a maximum position of approximately $5,000 with a -20% stop, meaning roughly $1,000 is planned risk.

If I take a long-premium multiday position, my current framework would instead be:

Maximum premium: $1,000
Mechanical stop loss: None
Maximum possible loss: Entire $1,000 premium

In other words, I am not giving a longer-duration trade more money simply because I’m giving it more time.

I’m reducing the position size so the maximum dollar risk remains approximately the same.

The risk management happens at entry through position sizing.

The Important Part

The previous earnings reactions do not tell us what AVAV will do this time.

They do, however, give us enough evidence to take seriously the possibility that whichever direction wins after earnings could continue well beyond the first session.

That is the opportunity I’m preparing for.

I don’t need to predict the print.

I need to identify the direction the market chooses, determine whether that direction is being accepted, and then decide whether a multiday position offers favorable risk relative to the structure.

We’ll revisit this closer to earnings once we know the actual pre-print price, updated implied move, and where AVAV is sitting relative to these decision areas.
