#USDJPY — Intervention Risk at 160

76
USDJPY continues to trade near multi-year highs, but the area above 160 yen per dollar remains an extremely sensitive zone for Japanese authorities. It was around this level that Japan previously intervened in the foreign exchange market in an effort to slow the yen's depreciation.
Fundamentally, the U.S. dollar continues to benefit from the wide interest rate differential between the United States and Japan. However, the longer the pair remains above 160, the greater the risk of an unexpected intervention by Japan's Ministry of Finance.
In the coming weeks, this area could become one of the most important risk zones for participants in the foreign exchange market.
