EMA RMSD Bands [NJ]

✧ OVERVIEW ✧
EMA RMSD Bands is a volatility-based, trend-following indicator that places Root Mean Square Deviation bands around an exponential moving average.
RMSD measures how far closing price has recently been from the EMA itself. Band width therefore reflects the typical distance between price and its trend line, expanding when price moves far from the EMA and contracting when it stays close.
Price closing beyond the bands determines the current bullish or bearish condition, which is displayed using colored candles, an active band, the EMA and a gradient glow.
✧ SETTINGS ✧
Color Mode
Switches between colored and neutral visualization.
Color Candles
Shows or hides candle coloring based on the current signal.
RMSD Length
Controls how many bars are used to calculate both the EMA and the RMSD.
RMSD Multiplier
Controls how far the bands are placed from the EMA.
✧ HOW IT WORKS ✧
Exponential Moving Average
EMA of closing price over RMSD Length is used as the center of the bands.
Root Mean Square Deviation
For each bar in the lookback period, the distance between close and the EMA value on that bar is squared. The squared distances are averaged and the square root is taken.
RMSD = √(Σ (Close − EMA)² / RMSD Length)
Unlike standard deviation, which measures dispersion around the average of the values in the window, RMSD measures dispersion around the EMA itself. Band width therefore directly reflects how far price has been from the band center.
Bands
Upper Band = EMA + RMSD × RMSD Multiplier
Lower Band = EMA − RMSD × RMSD Multiplier
Signal Logic
A bullish condition is activated when price closes above the upper band.
A bearish condition is activated when price closes below the lower band.
Active condition remains unchanged until the opposite condition occurs.
✧ VISUALIZATION ✧
Green represents a bullish condition.
Red represents a bearish condition.
Neutral mode displays the same conditions using light and dark shades.
During a bullish condition, lower band is displayed in green.
During a bearish condition, upper band is displayed in red.
EMA is displayed as a thinner, semi-transparent line in the color of the active condition.
A gradient glow fills the area between the active band and a 10-period simple moving average of closing price. It is strongest at the band and fades toward price.
Same signal colors can optionally be applied directly to the chart candles.
✧ USAGE ✧
EMA RMSD Bands can be used to identify:
Bullish and bearish trend conditions
Volatility-adjusted price breakouts
Dynamic trend support and resistance
Directional market bias
Trend confirmation
Additional confirmation for other technical analysis
Measuring deviation directly from the EMA is designed to scale the bands to how far price typically moves away from its trend line.
As with any technical indicator, it is best used alongside other forms of analysis rather than as a standalone entry or exit signal.
