Multiple Moving Average

Multi-timeframe (MTF) moving averages are just moving averages calculated on a higher timeframe than the chart you're looking at, then drawn on the current chart. So on a 5‑minute SPY chart you might plot the 1H 20‑EMA, the 4H 50‑EMA, and the Daily 200‑SMA all at once.
What they give you: the trend context of a bigger timeframe without leaving your execution timeframe. You're trading the 5m, but you can see where the 1H and Daily averages sit — which is usually where the real support/resistance and the dominant bias live.
How to read them on the chart:
The slope and price position of each HTF MA gives directional bias — price above a rising HTF MA = that timeframe is bullish. Stacking (a ribbon) is the key signal: when the fast/short‑TF MAs line up above the slow/higher‑TF MAs in order, the trend is aligned across timeframes and trends tend to run; when they're tangled or out of order, it's chop/transition. HTF MAs also act as dynamic S/R — intraday pullbacks on SPY/SPX frequently stall at the 1H or 4H average even though it isn't visible as a level on the lower chart.
