HTF Candle Boxes - Full Period

HTF Candle Boxes - Full Period
See the higher-timeframe candle developing directly on your lower-timeframe chart.
This indicator groups chart candles into higher-timeframe boxes, helping you follow the larger candle’s range, body, and direction while keeping your lower-timeframe execution view.
For example, use a 2-minute chart with 30-minute boxes to see how individual candles build each 30-minute period.
WHAT MAKES THIS VERSION DIFFERENT
At the beginning of each higher-timeframe period, the box immediately spans that period’s full scheduled width. Its high, low, body, and color then update as price develops.
The right edge marks the period’s scheduled end. It does not predict future price.
This modification focuses on fixed time boundaries and live updates to the current period’s drawings.
READING THE BOXES
• Range box: The developing high and low of the period.
• Body box: The distance between the period’s opening price and the latest price.
• Green body: Latest price is at or above the period’s open.
• Red body: Latest price is below the period’s open.
• Optional midpoint: Halfway between the period’s developing high and low.
• Optional labels: Show the price range, or body size divided by total range. Forex ranges are expressed in conventional pips.
The body/range percentage measures the candle’s body relative to its full range. It does not measure where the close sits within that range.
GETTING STARTED
Use standard, time-based candlesticks. Set “Box Time Interval” higher than your chart interval.
Example combinations:
• 2-minute chart / 30-minute boxes
• 2-minute chart / 60-minute boxes
• 5-minute chart / 60-minute boxes
Enable Candle Boxes, Include Body, and Show MidLine for a starting view.
WAYS TO STUDY PRICE WITH THE BOXES
1. Follow the developing candle
Watch whether price holds above or below the period’s open, whether the body expands, and whether pullbacks remain within the developing range.
2. Study the midpoint
Observe how price behaves around the range midpoint. A completed candle closing near its high presents a different picture from one that gives back its advance and closes below the midpoint.
3. Compare consecutive periods
Look for overlapping ranges, contracting ranges, expanding ranges, and changes in closing location. These observations can help organize a study of consolidation and expansion.
4. Observe tests of the previous box
Watch how price behaves when it reaches the previous period’s high or low. Does it break and hold, reject, or briefly cross the level and return inside?
5. Study timing within each period
Observe when the high and low form and whether an early move continues or reverses. Record examples across multiple sessions before treating an observation as a repeatable pattern.
LIVE BEHAVIOR AND LIMITATIONS
The active box is unfinished. Its range, midpoint, body, and color can change until the period closes. Historical boxes show completed ranges; those final levels were not all known at the beginning of each period.
OHLC values are built from the chart’s candles. Use aligned intervals that divide evenly, and keep session settings consistent. Missing bars, session boundaries, or a partially loaded first period can affect the displayed range. Heikin-Ashi and other synthetic charts will produce values based on those chart candles.
Older drawings disappear as TradingView’s drawing limits are reached.
This is a visual analysis tool. It does not generate entry signals, identify accumulation or distribution automatically, or establish a proven trading edge.
