Open Interest Radar: Price & OI Divergence [Artio]

Open Interest tells us how much positioning is outstanding in the market. Price tells us where the market is moving. I built Open Interest Radar to watch the relationship between the two without jumping to conclusions about who is buying or selling.
The indicator combines native Open Interest data, percentage changes over fixed time horizons and confirmed Price/OI divergences in a compact separate panel.
What it shows
Understanding the states
OI EXPANDS — Price Up
Price is rising while outstanding Open Interest increases. Participation is expanding alongside the move, although the data does not establish which traders initiated the positions.
OI EXPANDS — Price Down
Price is falling while OI increases. New exposure is entering the market, but the indicator cannot determine whether the dominant activity comes from new shorts or hedged positions.
OI CONTRACTS
Price continues moving while OI decreases. Outstanding exposure is being reduced. This may reflect position closing or unwinding, but it does not independently prove liquidations or short covering.
PRICE FLAT
Open Interest is changing significantly while price remains within the configured movement threshold. This can be worth investigating near important levels, although it is not proof of accumulation or absorption.
OI FLAT
Open Interest has not changed enough to cross the selected threshold.
Price/OI divergence
The divergence detector compares confirmed price swing points with OI readings at those same points.
Examples include:
These are context mismatches, not automatic reversal signals. A divergence is displayed after the required price pivot has been confirmed.
The indicator can also draw the corresponding divergence line on the main price chart.
Time horizons and data quality
AUTO selects a comparison horizon according to the chart timeframe: 5 minutes for charts up to 5m, 1 hour for longer intraday charts and 24 hours for daily or higher charts.
The calculations use completed one-minute observations. Price and OI must have matching timestamps over the selected interval.
If an observation is missing, too old or does not meet the timing requirements, the corresponding calculation is left unavailable rather than estimated from unrelated bars.
Data availability depends on the exchange, instrument and TradingView feed. Some contracts do not provide usable Open Interest history at the requested resolution.
Interface and alerts
English is the default language. Russian is available from Language / Язык.
Users can customize the comparison horizon, movement thresholds, panel appearance and divergence visibility.
Optional confirmed-bar alerts notify when OI expansion accompanies an upward or downward price move. Alert titles are available in English and Russian.
Important limitations
An increase in OI does not tell us whether buyers or sellers are in control. A decrease does not, by itself, identify liquidations.
Open Interest is a measure of outstanding exposure, not a directional buy/sell volume delta.
The indicator does not access individual positions, the order book or exchange liquidation records. It does not execute trades or calculate the probability of a future price move.
This is a market-context and research tool designed to help traders observe positioning changes alongside price action.

The indicator combines native Open Interest data, percentage changes over fixed time horizons and confirmed Price/OI divergences in a compact separate panel.
What it shows
- Native Open Interest — a historical OI line using the available TradingView data feed.
- 5-minute, 1-hour and 24-hour OI changes — calculated from completed one-minute observations when the required data is available.
- Price/OI comparison — matches price and OI observations over the same time interval.
- Expansion and contraction — distinguishes growing and declining OI while price rises, falls or remains relatively flat.
- Price/OI divergence — identifies selected cases where price forms a new confirmed swing extreme while Open Interest moves in the opposite direction.
- Compact status dashboard — displays the current OI reading, percentage changes and a directional context indicator.

Price/OI divergence

- Price makes a higher high while OI at the new high is lower than at the previous high.
