Trinity MidPoint ATR Ribbon

2 368
**How to use the Trinity MidPoint ATR Ribbon**

Start by loading the indicator on an E-mini Nasdaq chart set to the 60-minute timeframe. That is the market and bar size the original testing used. The ribbon will appear around price with a center line and two outer edges.

The center line is the midpoint of the highest high and lowest low over the length you choose (default 15). The upper and lower edges sit a set distance away from that midpoint, measured in ATR. The fill between the edges turns green when the current close is above the midpoint and red when the close is below it. Green means the session is currently biased higher relative to the recent equilibrium. Red means it is biased lower.

The upper edge is the long breakout level. When price pushes through it, the market has moved far enough above the midpoint to count as a breakout in the direction of the green bias. The lower edge works the same way for shorts. Because the distance is based on ATR, the ribbon automatically widens when volatility rises and tightens when it falls.

**Suggested starting settings**

Default settings for Midpoint Length at 15, the ATR Length at 5, and the ATR Multiplier at 0.4. You can raise the multiplier if you want fewer signals and a wider ribbon, or lower it if you want the edges closer to price. Changing the ATR length from 5 to 20 or 40 produces a smoother, slower ribbon. Changing the midpoint length changes how quickly the center line reacts to new highs and lows.

**Practical ways to use it**

Treat the green fill as permission to look for long breakouts above the upper edge and the red fill as permission to look for short breakouts below the lower edge. Many traders only take the long side when the ribbon is green and only take the short side when it is red. Others simply use the upper and lower edges as objective stop-order levels and exits.

You can also watch for price to ride the upper edge in a green ribbon or the lower edge in a red ribbon as a form of trend confirmation. If price is above the midpoint and the ribbon is green, pullbacks toward the midpoint often act as support. If price is below the midpoint and the ribbon is red, rallies toward the midpoint often act as resistance.

The ribbon is only a visual tool. It does not place trades. Use it to define clear levels and a simple bullish/bearish bias, then apply your own entry rules, stop placement, and end-of-day exit if that matches your style. Adjust the three main inputs until the ribbon looks useful on the specific market and timeframe you trade.
Versionshinweise
What’s new
Added HTF ATR Ribbon (closed data)
Added colored candles to sho trend bias
A checkbox called “Show Higher Timeframe Ribbon” (default on).
When you uncheck it, the higher-timeframe ribbon disappears completely and only the current-timeframe ribbon + colored candles remain.
When you check it again, the HTF ribbon comes back.
The current-timeframe ribbon uses the chart bars (e.g. 5-minute).
The higher-timeframe ribbon still only uses closed bars (lookahead=barmerge.lookahead_off), so it does not repaint.
Candle color:
Bullish color when the close is above the current upper edge
Bearish color when the close is below the current lower edge
Neutral / no-trade color when the close is inside the current ribbon

All the length, multiplier, and color settings (including the tooltips that recommend values for a 5-minute chart).
The HTF calculations are simply skipped when the checkbox is off, so the indicator stays lighter when you only want one ribbon.
