AMA Dashboard: Flow and Structure

807
AMA Dashboard reads the trend from two adaptive moving averages and puts the chart into plain words: which side price is on, how steep the move is, how far it has run, and one grade. Then it grades its own grades on the chart you load it on, and prints the result in the panel.

WHAT IS DRAWN

The AMA, length 120, coloured by the trend: gold when price is above both AMAs, blue when it is below both, grey in between. The long AMA, length 999, drawn faint, with the space between the two filled by side. The protected high or low, drawn from the swing that made it, and the range from that level to the far end of its leg, with its 50 line. Each is one line that moves when the structure changes. A small triangle on the close of any bar where the structure flips.

THE PANEL

TREND. Bullish above both AMAs, Bearish below both, Neutral between them. Nothing is graded while the trend reads Neutral. STRENGTH. The slope of the AMA in ATRs per bar, shown as an angle: 45 degrees is one ATR per bar on any symbol. Strong from 13 degrees, Moderate from 6.7. A slope against the trend reads Counter. MOMENTUM. Whether the move is building or slowing, read on the trend's side, for example Weakly Weakening. FLOW. Net volume as a share of all volume, only where the symbol has volume. Where it has none, as on TVC:GOLD, the row reads No volume and the grade leaves it out. ROC. Rate of change, in percent. LOCATION. How far price sits from the AMA, in ATRs. GRADE. A++, A+, A, B+ or B, from a score that is a share of what the chart can score, so a letter means the same on any symbol, with volume or without. SETUP. One line in plain words when the conditions line up, for example BEARISH SETUP · A · AT THE AMA, and NO SETUP otherwise. It describes the chart. It is not an instruction to trade.

GRADED ON THIS CHART

Every graded bar is checked as the chart moves on. From its close, does price travel one ATR on the trend's side before it travels one ATR against it, within 20 bars? The panel shows how often that happened for each grade and for the setups, beside the same count for every bar. The count starts once both AMAs have their full window, covers every bar the chart has loaded, and is never reset.

WHAT WE MEASURED ON GOLD

On gold's 2 hour chart (TVC:GOLD), 29 April 2020 to 7 October 2026, the higher grades leaned the right way without clearing our significance bar: A grades reached the target first 51.9 times in 100, B grades 49.8 (z 1.41). Setups reached it first 48.3 times in 100, every bar 50.4. Read the grade as context for your own process, and read your own chart's panel before leaning on any letter. Past figures describe the past only.

HOW TO USE IT

Start with TREND and LOCATION: which side the chart sits on, and whether price is stretched from its mean. Take your levels from the structure lines and the range's 50. Treat the grade as a summary of the panel, and the ledger as the chart telling you what each letter has been worth on it.

SETTINGS

The two AMA lengths (120 and 999), the panel's position and size, and the colours. The defaults are set for gold and read the same on any symbol, because every distance is measured in ATRs.

Runs on any symbol and timeframe. Our own maths and code, written from scratch. Free and open source.
Notas de prensa
AMA Dashboard reads the trend from two adaptive moving averages and says, in five plain lines, which side price is on, how steep and how steady the move is, how far price has stretched from the AMA, and what bars like this one have done on the chart you load it on. Beside the last bar, mirrored rungs show how often price met the AMA again from each distance.

WHAT IS NEW IN 6.2

The panel is cut to five lines in plain words. The letter grade sits in the proof line beside its own record on your chart. Mirrored rungs at 1 to 4 ATR over and under the AMA carry counted odds of a return to the AMA within 20 bars. Between the two AMAs nothing is graded, and the panel says where price sits between them. The protected level and the range stop at the last bar, so the space beside it belongs to the rungs.

THE AMA

The AMA is Kaufman's adaptive moving average on the bar's average price (high, low and close over three). Its efficiency ratio is the net move over the length divided by the sum of every bar's move: near 1 in a clean trend, near 0 in chop. The smoothing runs from a fast end of 2 to a slow end of 60, squared, so the line hugs price in a clean move and goes flat in noise. Length 120 for the AMA and 999 for the long AMA. Each tracks price until its window fills and is drawn from there.

THE TREND

Bullish when the close is over both AMAs, bearish when it is under both. Between them the panel reads BETWEEN THE AMAS, says which side of each price sits on, and grades nothing. On TVC:GOLD's 2 hour chart, January 2020 to 7 October 2026, 39 bars in 100 sat over both, 32 under both and 28 between.

Strength is the slope of price over the last 10 bars in ATRs per bar, written as an angle: 45 degrees is one ATR a bar. Strong is past 13 degrees and moderate past 6.7; since 2020 about 23 bars in 100 on gold's 2 hour chart were steeper than 13 and 53 steeper than 6.7. A slope against the side reads Counter. The words: Very Strong, Strong, Improving Moderate, Moderate, Improving Weak, Weak, Counter.

Momentum is the change in that angle over 5 bars, with the trend, and how consistently it changed: Strongly Strengthening, Strengthening, Weakly Strengthening, Stable, Weakly Weakening, Weakening, Strongly Weakening.

Flow needs volume. It is net volume, each bar's volume weighted by where it closed in its range, as a share of all volume over 20 bars, set against the day's VWAP. It reads Accumulation or Distribution, a strong form of each when the bar closed in the top or bottom fifth of its range, or Neutral. On a chart with no volume it reads No volume and the grade leaves it out.

THE GRADE AND ITS RECORD

The grade adds the strength, the momentum, the rate of change when it agrees with the side, and the flow, as a share of what the chart can score: A++, A+, A, B+, B. Every graded bar is then scored on the chart: from its close, did price go 1 ATR with the trend before 1 ATR against, within 20 bars. Both in one bar counts against. The panel shows the grade now, how bars of that grade went on this chart, and how all bars went.

On gold's 2 hour chart the grades sit near even. Of all graded bars, 50 in 100 went 1 ATR with the trend first (7,179 against 7,073); by grade, A++ 52, A+ 52, A 51, B+ 50, B 50. The record is on the panel so you can see that for yourself on any chart.

THE RUNGS

Beside the last bar, rungs at 1, 2, 3 and 4 ATR over and under the AMA, mirrored, drawn out to price's own distance and never fewer than 2 a side. Each carries how often, on this chart, a bar that closed that far from the AMA saw price touch the AMA again within 20 bars. A touch counts whether price came back or the AMA came to it. The rung price has passed reads in full and brighter, for example 4 ATR UNDER · 12 IN 100 BACK IN 20 BARS; the others show their figure. Each side keeps its own count. Hover a rung for the bars behind it. A rung needs 20 bars in its band before it shows a figure.

On gold's 2 hour chart, January 2020 to 7 October 2026, in 100, closes over the AMA and under it: within 1 ATR, 85 and 88; 1 to 2 ATR, 61 and 64; 2 to 3, 43 and 43; 3 to 4, 33 and 23; 4 or more, 22 and 12. The further price stretched, the less often it met the AMA again inside 20 bars.

THE STRUCTURE

A swing high is a high with 2 lower highs each side, a swing low a low with 2 higher lows each side, each confirmed 2 bars late, so nothing redraws. A close beyond the last swing sets the structure, and a close through the protected level flips it. One line marks the protected level from the swing that made it. Two lines and a soft fill mark the range from where its leg began, with its 50 dashed. Triangles mark flips, on the close.

THE PANEL

TREND: the side and its strength, with the angle. MOMENTUM: the change, with the flow beside it. FROM THE AMA: how far price sits from the AMA in ATR, and how often a close that far met it again within 20 bars on this chart. GRADE: the grade, how bars of that grade went, and all bars. The footer: COUNTED ON THIS CHART, NOT A FORECAST, with the setup when there is one. On gold's 6 minute chart at 10:35 New York on 19 October it read BEARISH · VERY STRONG, -14.8 degrees; WEAKLY STRENGTHENING, flow: distribution; 4.2 ATR UNDER, 12 in 100 back in 20 bars; GRADE A+, 50 in 100, all bars 49.

A setup is a graded trend near its AMA: at the AMA (within 1 ATR times the volatility ratio, the ATR against its own 14 bar average, and never more than 1 ATR) at grade A or better, or stretched (past that, within 2 ATR times the same ratio and never more than 1.5 ATR) at B+ or better. On gold's 2 hour chart setups went 1 ATR with the trend first 49 times in 100. It describes where price is, not which way it goes.
