Adaptive Inertia Ribbon - AIR

Overview
The Adaptive Inertia Ribbon (AIR) is a next-generation trend and momentum indicator that reimagines the classic moving average ribbon. Unlike static ribbons that use fixed periods, AIR dynamically expands, contracts, and shifts its mathematical depth based on current market volatility and directed price inertia.
By utilizing a custom-built recursive dynamic algorithm, this script circumvents Pine Script’s native limitations, delivering a perfectly smooth, adaptive, and responsive market-tracking tool without the lag of traditional indicators.
How It Works
At the core of AIR lies a modified version of the Relative Volatility Index (RVI) used to measure market inertia:
1. The indicator calculates the ratio between directed price change (`close - close[1]`) and absolute price change (`math.abs(close - close[1])`).
2. This creates an efficiency factor bound between -1.0 and +1.0.
3. High Inertia (Strong Trend): The ribbon compresses and tightly hugs the price action (multiplier drops toward `minMult`). This allows you to ride strong trends early without premature exits.
4. Low Inertia (Sideways/Chop): The ribbon smoothly stretches its periods outward (multiplier expands toward `maxMult`). This filters out noise, whipsaws, and false breakouts during flat or low-liquidity ranges.
Key Features
* True Dynamic EMA: Powered by a custom recursive array script that computes fractional and adaptive periods on every single bar.
* Gradient Visuals & Cloud: Instant visual recognition of trend strength with smooth teal (bullish) and maroon (bearish) color transitions and dynamic cloud fill.
* Noise Filtration: Automatically adapts its period length so it's fast when you need speed, and deep/slow when the market is chopping.
* Fully Automated Alerts: Built-in breakout signals (`Buy` / `Sell`) with native `alertcondition` integration.
How to Trade with AIR
1. Trend Identification (The Cloud):
* When the ribbon is bright Teal, look for long opportunities.
* When the ribbon is deep Maroon, look for short opportunities.
2. The Compression Squeeze: Watch for moments when all lines of the ribbon tightly bottleneck together. This indicates a volatility contraction, which is usually followed by a powerful explosive breakout.
3. Breakout Signals:
* A Green Triangle (Buy) appears when the price breaks out and closes above the fastest line while the ribbon confirms a bullish alignment.
* A Red Triangle (Sell) appears when the price breaks down and closes below the fastest line during a bearish alignment.
Settings & Inputs
* Base Period: The starting window for the fastest MA line.
* Step Between Lines: Spacing factor that determines how far apart subsequent ribbon lines are calculated.
* Inertia Calculation Period: The lookback window used to evaluate market efficiency/chop.
* Min/Max Adaptivity Multipliers: Bounds that dictate how compressed or expanded the ribbon can get during extreme market phases.
