ATR Skew Bands - User Defined Levels

ATR SKEW Bands is a volatility-based charting tool designed to provide an adaptive, asymmetric price range by combining traditional ATR analysis with the CBOE SKEW Index.
Unlike conventional volatility bands that maintain the same distance above and below price, this indicator dynamically adjusts the downside range in response to changes in the broader market's SKEW environment.
The result is a visual framework for evaluating price movement and potential downside risk while taking current volatility conditions into consideration.
Key Features
Adaptive Downside Range
The lower volatility band responds to changes in the SKEW environment, allowing the downside range to expand or contract as market conditions change.
Standard Upside Range
The upper band provides a conventional ATR-based reference above the selected price source.
Asymmetric Volatility Structure
The combination of the two bands creates an asymmetric range that can provide additional context when evaluating potential downside movement.
SKEW Regime Visualization
The chart provides visual feedback when SKEW moves into elevated ranges, making changes in the broader volatility environment easier to identify.
Real-Time Information Dashboard
An on-chart dashboard displays the current ATR, SKEW value, and adjusted volatility measurement used by the indicator.
User Controls
The indicator provides several configurable settings so users can adapt the tool to their preferred market, timeframe, and volatility methodology.
ATR Settings
ATR Lookback Length
Controls the period used to calculate the indicator's volatility measurement.
Price Source
Selects the price series used as the center reference for the bands.
SKEW Settings
SKEW Level 1
Defines the first user-selected SKEW regime threshold.
SKEW Level 2
Defines the second user-selected SKEW regime threshold.
These settings allow users to customize how the indicator categorizes different SKEW environments.
ATR Adjustment Settings
The indicator provides three configurable adjustment levels corresponding to the different SKEW environments.
These settings allow users to determine how aggressively the downside volatility range responds as the SKEW environment changes.
Table Position
The information dashboard can be positioned in:
• Top Right
• Bottom Right
• Top Center
How to Use
ATR SKEW Bands can be used as a volatility and risk-context tool alongside price action, trend indicators, and other technical analysis methods.
The center line provides the selected price reference, while the upper and lower bands establish an adaptive volatility range around that reference.
The lower band is particularly useful when evaluating potential downside price movement because its distance responds to the prevailing SKEW environment rather than remaining fixed at a conventional ATR distance.
The SKEW-based background visualization provides an additional visual indication when market conditions move into higher SKEW regimes.
The dashboard allows traders to monitor the underlying volatility measurements without having to reference separate indicators.
Customization
Because volatility characteristics vary between markets and timeframes, the indicator allows users to customize the ATR period, price source, SKEW regime levels, and corresponding volatility adjustments.
This makes the indicator suitable for experimentation across different trading methodologies without requiring changes to the underlying script.
Important Notes
ATR SKEW Bands is an analytical tool designed to provide volatility and risk context. The bands should not be interpreted as guaranteed support, resistance, price targets, or predictions of future market movement.
The indicator's results will vary based on the selected symbol, timeframe, price source, ATR settings, and SKEW configuration.
The CBOE SKEW Index is an external market-data series, and its availability may depend on the user's TradingView data access.
