Delta Pressure Clock

Is the selling you’re watching normal for this hour, or is something different happening today? Delta Pressure Clock answers that live. The current hour’s wedge updates candle by candle, with a dashed line behind it showing what this hour usually does.

Every hour of the last 24 gets its own wedge on the clock. Green means buyers won that hour, red means sellers won it, and the longer the wedge, the harder they pushed. The dashed line runs around the dial, so a wedge that reaches past it is an hour doing more than normal. The hand points at the hour in progress, while dotted arcs around the rim mark the Asia, London and New York sessions.

Below the clock, a panel grades the current hour and shows who usually owns it. Under that, three tiles read delta over three windows. On price, two moving averages track the trend, each tagged with its length. Because delta is estimated from lower-timeframe candles, it all works on any TradingView plan.

🔶 USAGE

🔸 Read the wedges. One per hour of the last 24, on a 24-hour clock with 00 at the top. Green is net estimated buying, red is net estimated selling, and grey is an hour that is close to flat. Length grows with the size of the hour’s net delta, so the longest wedges are the hours that mattered most.

🔸 Compare with the dashed line. The line is each hour’s usual size, averaged across recent days. A wedge that reaches past the line is an hour running hotter than normal; a wedge well inside it is a quiet one.

🔸 Follow the hand. It points at the time of day of the last candle, sweeping through its hour minute by minute, so you always know which wedge is being built right now.

🔸 Use the sessions. The dotted arcs outside the rim mark Asia, London and New York on the dial’s own clock, with a label on each, so you can see at a glance which session the buying or selling fell in.

🔸 Read the banner. The banner across the top of the panel grades the hour in progress as Mild, Medium or Strong Buying or Selling Pressure, on the same scale as the wedges, and is filled in the colour of whoever owns it.

🔸 Check who usually owns the hour. Below the banner, “Usually Owned By” says whether buyers or sellers have won this hour more often over its last few finished occurrences, so you can tell a normal hour from an unusual one.

🔸 Read the three tiles. The three tiles cover 15 minutes, 1 hour and 4 hours by default, and each reads BUYING, SELLING or NEUTRAL against its own history. They are nested, so they often agree; it is when they disagree that something is changing.

🔸 Follow the lines. Two moving averages run through price, a fast one and a slow one, built from the 15-minute and 1-hour timeframes by default. Each carries a tag with the EMA length it is actually using on your chart.

🔶 DETAILS

🔸 Estimated delta. Each candle is broken into the smaller bars inside it, for example five 1-minute bars in a 5-minute candle. Every smaller bar is compared with the close of the smaller bar just before it, even across the gap from one candle into the next. If it closed higher, its whole volume counts as buying; if it closed lower, its whole volume counts as selling; if it closed level, it takes the side of the bar before it. The candle’s delta is buying minus selling across all of its smaller bars. The first smaller bar of each session has no earlier close, so it is measured against its own open. This is an estimate from price direction and volume. It is not bid/ask or aggressor volume.

🔸 Lower timeframe. Auto picks the coarsest whole minute that divides the candle exactly while still giving about five smaller bars per candle. On charts of 1 minute and below, each candle is measured on its own against the close before it. A candle whose intrabar data did not arrive adds nothing rather than a guess.

🔸 The wedges. Each hour’s wedge is the net estimated delta of its most recent occurrence in the last 24 hours. Length is measured against one fixed scale: the size of the strongest tenth of all the finished hours on the chart, taken when the chart loads and then held, so a finished wedge never changes length. Past the shortest wedge, length grows with the square root of the delta, so quiet hours stay visible. A stronger hour gets a full-colour core, and the strongest get a bright tip.

🔸 The dashed line. Each hour’s usual size is a running average of its finished occurrences, weighted to the last five days by default, and taken before the current occurrence is added, so the line never contains the hour it is judging. An hour only joins its average once it is at least four fifths complete, so a day cut short does not drag it down.

🔸 The banner and the habit. The hour in progress is graded on the wedges’ own scale: Mild below the strength that earns a wedge its core, Medium from there, and Strong from the strength that earns the bright tip. “Usually Owned By” needs at least three finished occurrences before it says anything.

🔸 The tiles. Each window is a trailing sum of each candle’s estimated delta, smoothed, then scaled against the 90th percentile of its own size over the scale lookback. A reading close to zero is NEUTRAL. A tile reads NO DATA until it has enough measured history behind it (see NOTES).

🔸 The lines. Each line is an EMA of close whose length is, by default, four times its timeframe’s ratio to the chart’s timeframe, so it is always the same length in its own timeframe. On a 5-minute chart the defaults are EMA 12 and EMA 48. The tags show the lengths in use.

🔸 Update timing. The two lines and their tags move on every tick. The clock and the panel are rebuilt once per closed candle, so a wedge never changes after its hour has finished and the dial never flickers. The wedge scale is measured when the chart loads and stays fixed until it is reloaded or a setting changes.

🔶 SETTINGS

🔸 Delta windows. The three tile windows, shortest first. A window shorter than one candle is raised to one candle, and the tile is renamed to the window actually measured.

🔸 Lines. The timeframe of each line and the length multiplier. Set the fast line shorter than the slow one.

🔸 Delta estimate. The lower timeframe, blank for auto, and the scale lookback for the tiles.

🔸 Clock and panel. Show or hide either. Size resizes the clock and panel together. Gap sets the distance from the last candle. Position puts the clock at, above or below the last close. Price per bar is auto by default; the value in use is printed on the panel, and typing it in keeps the clock’s proportions fixed for good. Typical hour smoothing sets how many days the dashed line leans on. Session times and the hour timezone, blank for the exchange’s own clock.

🔸 Look. Buying, selling and flat colours. Line colour and width. Optional halo on the slow line. Colour candles by trend is off by default and on in the preview: when on, each candle takes the colour of the side of the chosen line it closed on (the fast line by default), with a small ATR buffer so chop around the line does not flip it. EMA length tags can be switched off.

🔶 NOTES

🔸 Delta Pressure Clock reads estimated buying and selling from lower-timeframe price direction and volume. It is not exchange bid/ask or order-flow data, and the script never substitutes a guess: where intrabar data is missing, that candle adds nothing rather than an approximation.

🔸 Built for intraday charts of 1 hour or less, on symbols that report volume, on standard candle charts. On any other chart it says so on the chart rather than drawing something it cannot stand behind.

🔸 The clock sits to the right of the last candle and reserves about 140 candles of space at the default size. If you only see the two lines, scroll the chart left or zoom out and the clock comes into view.

🔸 The clock is drawn in chart space. Right-click the price scale and tick Lock price to bar ratio to keep it perfectly round at every zoom. It looks its best on a solid chart background.

🔸 The tiles only give a reading once they have enough measured history behind them. TradingView only provides the smaller bars inside each candle back to a certain point, so older candles carry no delta. Each tile measures itself against its own past, which needs a full run of candles that do have delta: on a 5-minute chart that’s about 800 candles for the 4-hour tile, and fewer for the shorter ones. Until it has them, the tile shows NO DATA instead of a reading built on too little. On most charts the tiles are ready as soon as the chart loads.

🔸 Only hours that traded get a wedge. On a stock, the hours outside its trading session stay empty, while futures and crypto fill the whole dial.

🔸 The preview shows candle colouring switched on and set to the slow line, with the clock set to Above price. By default, candle colouring is off (it uses the fast line when turned on) and the clock sits at price. Candle colour shows which side of the chosen line price is on, not a buy or sell signal.

🔸 Delta Pressure Clock is a context tool, not a buy or sell signal. Wherever “buying” and “selling” appear on the dial or the panel, they describe estimated pressure: which side has been more active in that hour or window. They are not instructions to buy or sell.

🔶 SUMMARY

Delta Pressure Clock answers one question live: is what you’re watching normal for this hour? Every hour of the last 24 gets a wedge showing whether buyers or sellers won it and how hard they pushed, and the dashed line shows what each hour usually does. The panel grades the current hour and shows who usually owns it, while two tagged moving averages keep the trend in view on price.
Notes de version
🔶 Size is now a 1–10 setting under Clock and panel: 10 is the full size (the default) and 1 is about 70% of it, so the clock and panel fit on screen with the chart zoomed further in. Sizes larger than the default are no longer available. This update's chart uses size 1.

🔶 The wedges, banner, tiles and coloured candles now use a brighter green and red.

🔶 The dotted session arcs are now clean slices of the dial at every size, most noticeable on the smaller sizes.

🔶 Candle colouring (off by default, under Look → Colour candles by trend) now colours the candle bodies only; the wick and outline keep your chart's own colours. The original preview had it switched on; this update's chart has it switched off.

🔶 Tooltips updated to match the changes above.
