NASDAQ 100 – Trading Summary & Outlook

290
Markets remain well supported by improving macro and geopolitical sentiment. The continued decline in oil prices— with Brent holding below $100 and a clearly downward-sloping futures curve—has eased fears of a stagflationary shock. This has reinforced expectations that the current conflict will be temporary, helping stabilise both inflation expectations and broader risk appetite.

US equities responded strongly, with the S&P 500 gaining +1.18% and moving back toward record highs. Strength was led by large-cap tech, as the “Magnificent 7” surged +5.49%, providing a direct tailwind for the NASDAQ 100. Broader participation was also constructive, with small caps advancing and volatility easing—evidenced by the VIX falling to its lowest level since late February.

Sector dynamics reinforced the risk-on tone. Lower energy prices boosted consumer-facing sectors, while Energy and Banks lagged. At the same time, tightening high-yield spreads point to improving financial conditions, further supporting equity valuations—particularly for growth stocks.

AI optimism has reaccelerated, highlighted by strong demand signals from ASML and renewed investor enthusiasm around Anthropic. This is particularly supportive for the NASDAQ 100 given its heavy exposure to semiconductors and AI-driven names.

However, some policy risk lingers. Comments from Donald Trump and Scott Bessent suggest tariffs could return by mid-year, which may reintroduce volatility, particularly in global tech supply chains.

Conclusion:
The near-term outlook for the NASDAQ 100 remains constructive, supported by falling oil prices, easing financial stress, and renewed AI-driven momentum. If geopolitical tensions continue to de-escalate and yields remain contained, the index is well-positioned to challenge or break above recent highs.

That said, upside may be tempered by policy uncertainty around tariffs and any shift in central bank tone. For now, the bias remains bullish with a watchful eye on macro and policy risks.
