EMA Trend

EMA Trend
EMA Trend colors a 6-EMA ribbon so you can see the trend at a glance: up, down, squeezing, or choppy. It also adds breakout signals, optional support/resistance zones, EMA projections, and an info panel.

HOW THE COLORS WORK
──────────────
🟢 TEAL – UP TREND
The EMAs are stacked in order (fastest on top) and sloping up.
🩷 PINK – DOWN TREND
The EMAs are stacked in order (fastest on bottom) and sloping down.
🟣 PURPLE – SQUEEZE
Price is coiling sideways and the EMAs are bunched tight. A bigger move may be coming, but the squeeze does not tell you the direction. Wait for teal or pink.
🟠 ORANGE – CHOP
The EMAs are tangled or pointing different ways. There is no clean trend.
All colors can be changed in settings.
──────────────
TREND MODE
──────────────
Choose how strict the trend color is:
• Fast – only the 3 fastest EMAs decide the color. Quickest to react, more flips in chop.
• Balanced – all EMAs, with a little room for one to be out of line.
• Strict – all EMAs must be fully stacked. Slowest, cleanest.
"Only Checked EMAs Count" lets you decide which EMAs are used. Hide an EMA and it no longer affects the color.
──────────────
SQUEEZE
──────────────
Two ways to detect a squeeze:
• Ribbon – the EMAs are unusually tight compared to recent bars.
• TTM – the classic squeeze: Bollinger Bands inside Keltner Channels (concept by John Carter).
A squeeze must last a minimum number of bars before it counts, which filters out 1–2 bar flickers.
"Trend Beats Squeeze" (on by default): when EMAs bunch up during a trend change, the trend color still shows instead of purple, so new trends are not hidden.
──────────────
SIGNALS
──────────────
▲ BULL / ▼ BEAR – the ribbon breaks out of a squeeze, lines up, and price closes outside the ribbon.
SQUEEZE – the ribbon just turned purple.
CHOP – the EMAs just got tangled.
Optional SUPPORT / RESISTANCE zones mark the squeeze area after a breakout. A zone turns gray ("BROKEN") if price closes through it, or "OLD" once it expires.
──────────────
EMA PROJECTION (optional)
──────────────
Dotted lines show where each EMA is heading:
• Curved – where the EMA goes if price stays at the current level (or a custom price you enter). This uses the real EMA formula.
• Straight – extends the EMA's recent slope.
These are "what if" lines, not predictions.
──────────────
PRESETS
──────────────
Auto picks settings for your chart timeframe:
• 1 Min preset on 1-minute charts
• 5 Min preset on all other timeframes
Or choose Custom to set everything yourself.
──────────────
PANEL
──────────────
• Trend – UP / DOWN / SQUEEZE / CHOP
• Squeeze – how tight the ribbon is
• Lined Up – how many EMA pairs are stacked
• Rising / Falling – how many EMAs slope each way
• Hit Rate – how often past breakouts on this chart reached a 1.2 ATR target before a 1.2 ATR stop (shows "need more signals" until there are at least 5)
• Preset and Mode in use
──────────────
EXTRA
──────────────
• Separate 200 EMA line (does not affect the colors)
• Shade the whole ribbon or only between the 9 and 21
• Adjustable label sizes and positions
• Alerts: Bull Breakout, Bear Breakout, Squeeze Started, Turned Chop, Turned Up, Turned Down
──────────────
TIPS
──────────────
• Use the color as a filter: look for longs on teal, shorts on pink, and stand aside on orange.
• Purple means wait for the breakout direction.
• Confirm with your own analysis and risk management.
