🛡 Session Awareness — Why I Mark the First 15 Minutes (M15)
As part of my beginner roadmap, I added London and New York session awareness to my 15-minute chart.
I use:
FX Market Sessions (by Boitokí)
Only London and New York enabled.
Clean chart. No clutter.
But here’s what I also do:
When a session opens,
I mark the first 15-minute candle.
Then I extend that candle’s high and low for one full hour.
⸻
Why Do I Extend It for One Hour?
Because the first candle often shows:
• Early volatility
• Liquidity sweep (a.k.a Stop Hunt)
• Fake breakout
• Or momentum start
But the real story develops in the next few candles.
So instead of reacting immediately,
I observe how price behaves relative to that opening range.
⸻
What I Watch During That Hour
🔹 Break and Hold
If price breaks the high or low and stays outside,
momentum may be building.
🔹 Break and Return
If price breaks but quickly comes back inside,
it may be a fake move or liquidity sweep.
🔹 Stay Inside
If price remains inside the opening range,
the market may be slow or ranging.
I do not trade the first candle blindly.
I observe reaction first.
⸻
Why This Helps Me as a Beginner
This gives me timing awareness.
Instead of guessing when to trade,
I focus on when the market becomes active.
It helps me:
• Avoid dead hours
• Avoid forcing entries
• Recognize volatility shifts
• Build patience
This is not a strategy.
It’s context.
Structure + Timing = Better decisions.
Still Phase 1.
Still simple.
Still learning.
Structure first.
Momentum second.
Execution last. 🛡
