IBD Distribution Days

What’s New
1. Follow-Through Day (FTD)
A green up arrow appears below the bar, labeled FTD, when a qualifying Follow-Through Day is detected.
Based on widely cited descriptions of the IBD methodology, an FTD occurs when the Nasdaq or S&P 500 gains at least 1.25% on volume higher than the previous day, on Day 4 or later of a rally attempt. This script implements those conditions.
Rally attempt rules:
Day 1: The first up-close day following a correction low, or a “pink” day that closes lower but finishes in the upper half of its daily range.
Rally low invalidation: A break below the rally low resets the rally-attempt count.
Minimum correction: A correction of at least 5% is required by default before a new rally attempt can qualify. This filter helps prevent ordinary up days during an established bull market from being incorrectly identified as FTDs.
FTD invalidation: After an FTD occurs, no new FTD can be generated until the existing FTD fails (the index closes below the FTD day's low) or a new correction begins from the post-FTD high.
2. Power Trend (PT)
A blue up arrow appears below the bar, labeled PT, on the day a Power Trend begins.
The implementation follows commonly cited interpretations of IBD's Power Trend methodology, using the following conditions:
The index low remains above the 21-day EMA for at least 10 consecutive days.
The 21-day EMA remains above the 50-day SMA for at least 5 consecutive days.
The 50-day SMA is rising.
The index closes higher on the day the Power Trend begins.
Power Trend termination:
Standard exit: The Power Trend typically ends when the 21-day EMA crosses below the 50-day SMA.
Circuit-breaker exit: An early exit is triggered when the index closes below the 50-day SMA while trading more than 10% below its recent peak.
The indicator marks the start of a Power Trend and tracks its current status.
3. Updated Information Table
The on-chart table now displays:
The current rally-attempt day.
The date of the most recent Follow-Through Day.
The current Power Trend status.
4. Alerts
Alerts are available for both Follow-Through Day and Power Trend signals, allowing you to monitor important market developments without constantly watching the chart.
Important Notes & Limitations
Methodology: IBD's original documentation could not be retrieved during development. The implemented rules are based on widely cited descriptions of its methodology and may not reproduce IBD's proprietary calculations exactly.
Customizable parameters: All numerical thresholds, including percentage requirements and moving-average confirmation periods, are configurable through the indicator's inputs.
Power Trend early exit: The indicator does not model an early Power Trend exit specifically triggered by an FTD failure.
Recommended market: IBD's Power Trend methodology is primarily associated with the Nasdaq Composite. For the most representative results, apply the indicator to the Nasdaq Composite or another major market index.
Recommended timeframe: Use a daily chart with volume data. Examples include SPY, QQQ, and NASDAQ.

הערות שחרור
What it doesIt scans back through a lookback window you set (default 25 trading days, which is IBD’s roughly 5 weeks).
It finds distribution days, which are closes down at least 0.2% from the prior close on higher volume than the prior day.
It drops a distribution day from the count once any later close is 5% or more above that day’s close. This threshold is adjustable.
Each active distribution day gets a red down arrow above its bar. Hovering shows the date, the percentage change and the volume increase.
Days removed by a rally show as gray arrows. You can turn these off.
A table in the corner shows the active count and a status of Low, Elevated or Heavy. The caution and danger levels default to 3 and 5 and are adjustable.
There are alerts for each new distribution day and for the count hitting the caution or danger level.
Optional extras
Stalling days: higher volume, a tiny gain and a close in the lower half of the day’s range. They are off by default. IBD doesn’t publish exact thresholds, so my 0.4% maximum gain is an approximation.
Faded arrows for older distribution days outside your window.
What’s new
FTD (green up arrow below the bar, labelled “FTD”): IBD describes this as a gain of at least 1.25% in the Nasdaq or S&P 500 on higher volume than the day before, on Day 4 or later of a rally attempt. The script implements that.
fool
Day 1 is the first up close after a correction low, or a “pink” day that closes lower but in the upper half of its range.
Undercutting the rally low resets the count.
The script needs a minimum correction before a rally attempt counts, 5% by default. Without that filter, any strong up day in a bull market would be flagged.
After an FTD, no new one can fire until it fails (a close below the FTD day’s low) or a new correction starts from the post-FTD high.
Power Trend (blue up arrow below the bar, labelled “PT”): the arrow marks the day it starts. The community scripts that implement IBD’s method require the index low to stay above the 21-day EMA for at least 10 days, the 21-day EMA to stay above the 50-day SMA for at least 5 days, and the 50-day SMA to be rising. I also require an up close on the start day, as those scripts do. It usually ends when the 21-day line crosses back below the 50-day. I also added the “circuit breaker” early exit: a close below the 50-day SMA while more than 10% off the recent peak.
The table now shows the current rally-attempt day, the last FTD date and the Power Trend status. There are new alerts for both signals.
