XAUUSD 4040 discount trap — 4165 next?
That 4,050 flush looks scary, but this is exactly where late shorts can get baited.
Gold pulled back from above 4,100, broke the small recovery structure, and now price is testing the discount zone around 4,040 - 4,020. Yeah, short-term pressure is bearish. No argument there.
USD is strong. Fed risk is sitting right in front of the market. Daily structure still leans heavy.
But chart-wise? Selling straight into discount after the move already stretched lower feels late.
The clean read for me is simple. Gold can sweep into 4,040 - 4,020 first, trap sellers, then try to reclaim back toward 4,093. That 4,093 area is the first gate. If buyers take it back, the next draw is the bearish OB around 4,145 - 4,165.
That zone is not a place to blindly buy. It is the real reaction area. Premium price. Previous supply. Clean place for sellers to defend if the bigger bearish structure wants to stay alive.
Main bias is bullish recovery while 4,020 holds.
Trading scenario:
Buy idea only if gold holds the 4,040 - 4,020 discount zone and reclaims above 4,060 with clean candles.
Entry zone: 4,020 - 4,050 after confirmation
Stop loss: below 3,999
TP1: 4,093
TP2: 4,120
TP3: 4,145 - 4,165
No hold inside discount, no buy. Simple.
If gold closes hard below 3,999, this recovery idea is cooked. Then sellers can drag price back toward 3,959.
For now, I’m watching the discount sweep first, then 4,093 reclaim.
