IOC: Approaching Major Supply Zone- Wait for BO

417
The Core Thesis: Structural Strength Meeting Resistance
IOC remains in a robust long-term uptrend, characterized by a series of Break of Structure (BOS) levels. However, unlike its peers who have more "open air" above them, IOC is currently knocking on the door of a significant Supply Zone (₹180–₹190) that has historically capped price action. While the trend is bullish, the proximity to this "Weak High" suggests a more cautious entry approach is needed to ensure a favorable Risk/Reward ratio.

Technical Breakdown
  • Moving Average Alignment: The "Perfect Stack" is fully intact. The price is trading well above the 10, 20, and 50-week EMAs, with the 200-week SMA (orange line) trending far below at approximately ₹125, providing a massive institutional floor.
  • Supply Zone Friction: The stock is currently hitting the lower bound of the ₹180 Supply Zone. We are seeing some selling pressure (upper wicks) as it approaches this level. A clean weekly close above ₹192 is required to confirm that this supply has been absorbed.
  • Relative Strength (RS): The RS indicator (bottom panel) has turned green and is trending upward, confirming that IOC is outperforming the broader Nifty index.
  • Support Levels: Should a pullback occur, the Structural Demand Zone (₹140–₹145) and the 50-week EMA act as major safety nets.

Tactical Trade Plan
  • Action: SELECTIVE BUY ON BREAKOUT OR PULLBACK
  • Breakout Entry: Enter a long position only after a Confirmed Weekly Close above ₹192. This ensures the Supply Zone has turned into Demand.
  • Pullback Entry: If the price rejects ₹185, look to accumulate near the 20-week EMA (approx. ₹165–₹170).
  • Stop-Loss (SL): ₹155 (Weekly close basis). This protects your capital below the recent swing low and the 20-week EMA.
  • Target 1: ₹210 (Projected trend extension).
  • Target 2: ₹235 (Long-term Fibonacci extension target).

Final Note for Traders
IOC is a "laggard" play in the strong PSE energy sector. While it has more resistance to clear than BPCL or HINDPETRO, its Relative Strength indicates it is catching up. Be patient;don't "buy the ceiling" at ₹180; wait for the ceiling to become the floor.
