Buy/Sell Delta Candles

Buy/Sell Delta Candles shows, right on the price chart, how much of each candle's volume came from buyers and how much from sellers. Under every candle it draws a copy of that same candle, and fills the copy's body with two colors: green for the buying share and red for the selling share. One look tells you not only where price went, but who pushed it there.

WHAT YOU SEE

Each real candle has its copy just below it, with the same body and the same wicks.

- Green part (top of the body): the share of the candle's volume that was buying volume.
- Red part (bottom of the body): the share that was selling volume.
- Gray wicks: the candle's high and low, kept neutral so they don't mix with the delta colors.

If 70% of a candle's volume was buying, the copy's body is 70% green and 30% red. The color that fills more of the body is the side that won that candle.

The copy sits a small distance below the candle's low (measured in ATR), so it never covers the price action.

HOW IT IS CALCULATED

Volume data does not say by itself who was the buyer and who was the seller. The indicator uses the same method as TradingView's built-in Volume Delta: it reads lower timeframe data inside each candle and classifies that volume as buying or selling. It uses the ta.requestUpAndDownVolume() function from TradingView's official ta library.

The lower timeframe is chosen automatically:
- Seconds charts: 1 second
- Intraday charts: 1 minute
- Daily charts: 5 minutes
- Higher timeframes: 60 minutes

You can set a custom lower timeframe, or use "1 tick" aggregation if your plan allows it. A lower timeframe is more precise but provides less history. A higher one covers more history but is less precise.

INPUTS

- Data aggregation: "Time" (lower timeframe bars) or "1 tick" (tick data, available only on plans that support it).
- Use custom timeframe / Timeframe: overrides the automatic lower timeframe.
- Buy volume / Sell volume / Wicks: colors of the copy.
- Distance below the candle (ATR): gap between each candle and its copy.

The Data Window shows the exact values for each candle: buy volume, sell volume, delta (buy minus sell) and buy share in %.

HOW TO READ IT

- Agreement: a green candle whose copy is mostly green, or a red candle whose copy is mostly red. The aggressive side and the price moved together.
- Disagreement: a green candle whose copy is mostly red, or a red candle whose copy is mostly green. Price moved one way while the other side traded more volume, for example a rise where many sellers were absorbing the buying.
- Pushes into highs or lows: watch how the mix changes over several candles. A rally whose copies turn more and more red shows growing selling inside the move.
- Tests of levels: when price touches a support or resistance, the copies show which side was more aggressive at that moment.

LIMITATIONS

- Buy and sell volume are an approximation built from lower timeframe data, not exchange order-by-order data.
- How much history you get depends on how far back lower timeframe data is available for the symbol and your plan.
- The last candle updates in real time: its green and red parts change until the candle closes.
- On candles with very small bodies (dojis), the split is hard to see. Use the Data Window values instead.
- Volume depends on the data feed. On forex and CFDs it is usually tick volume from one provider, not the whole market.
- If the symbol has no volume data, the indicator shows an error.
