Release Notes
Crypto Breadth: % Above Moving Average (Top 40, CRYPTOCAP)
This indicator measures the percentage of the top 40 non-stablecoin cryptocurrencies currently trading above a user-defined moving average, using TradingView's CRYPTOCAP: feed for exchange-neutral market-cap data. It functions as a macro sentiment gauge — a single number that tells you how broad or narrow the prevailing trend is across the crypto market.
Stablecoins (USDT, USDC, BUSD, DAI) and wrapped tokens (WBTC, WETH) are intentionally excluded, as they would distort the reading. The 40-asset limit reflects Pine Script's request.security() cap per script.
Reading the indicator
Above 80% → broad bull market; the majority of assets are in an uptrend
20–80% → neutral/transitional zone
Below 20% → broad bear market; the majority of assets are in a downtrend
The yellow signal line is an EMA of the breadth value itself. Crossovers above or below it can serve as entry and exit triggers. The histogram color shifts to green above the overbought threshold, red below the oversold threshold, and grey in between.
Divergences are the highest-value signal. If price makes a new high while breadth is falling, the rally is narrowing — a warning sign. If price makes a new low while breadth is rising, selling pressure is becoming more selective — a potential bottoming signal.
User-adjustable settings:
Setting --- Default --- Notes
MA Length --- 200 --- Bars of history used for the moving average
MA Type --- SMA --- Switch to EMA for a more reactive average
Signal EMA Length --- 10 --- Smoothing period for the yellow signal line
Bull Level --- 80% --- Upper threshold; green zone trigger
Bear Level --- 20% --- Lower threshold; red zone trigger
Recommended configurations:
Daily + SMA 200 → macro market health (default, recommended)
Daily + EMA 50 → swing trading regime filter
Weekly + SMA 20 → multi-month cycle view
