Bristol Myers Expands NVIDIA Partnership to Build Top Life Sciences AI Supercomputer

Bristol Myers Squibb BMY, a drugmaker focused on creating new medicines, is expanding its three-year partnership with Nvidia, a chipmaker providing artificial intelligence computing technology, to increase the power of its AI factory. Bristol Myers said the system is being used to develop medicines more quickly, as the pharmaceutical industry explores whether AI could make the difficult drug-development process cheaper and easier. The expansion may give Bristol Myers greater computing capacity while further extending Nvidia's presence in life sciences.

As part of the partnership, Bristol Myers will deploy an Nvidia DGX SuperPOD equipped with DGX Vera Rubin NVL72 systems. The drugmaker said the installation would provide it with one of the most powerful AI supercomputers in the life-sciences industry. Investors may view the deployment as another example of pharmaceutical companies adopting Nvidia's computing infrastructure to support medicine development.

Nvidia NVDA has already established a separate partnership with Eli Lilly LLY, a drugmaker participating in the pharmaceutical industry's push into AI computing. Amgen AMGNnvda, a company that has also adopted Nvidia's technology, has built an Nvidia supercomputer at a site in Iceland. These partnerships suggest Nvidia is expanding its relationships across the pharmaceutical sector, while Bristol Myers' latest deployment could strengthen the computing resources supporting its drug-development efforts.
