FIVE INTEGRATED ENGINES
Fractal Pivots │ SMI Filter │ HMA Forecast │ Risk Management │ Short Trend Dashboard
DESCRIPTION
SMI Fractal Iron HMA integrates five complementary analytical engines into a single overlay indicator, designed so that each component addresses a different dimension of trade analysis — structure, momentum, trend context, risk parameters, and real-time directional scoring — and the outputs of each engine reinforce or qualify the signals of the others.
▸ Fractal Pivot Detection
Identifies structural swing highs and lows using fractal pivot logic with a key innovation: the left-side structural lookback and the right-side confirmation delay are split into two independent inputs. This allows traders to maintain high structural selectivity (catching only significant swing points) while independently controlling how many bars of confirmation are required before a signal prints. Setting Right Bars to zero enables zero-delay mode where the label appears on the forming bar itself.
▸ Stochastic Momentum Index (SMI) Filter
A double-smoothed EMA of the price-to-midpoint relationship, scaled to a configurable range. When enabled as a filter, long signals only print when SMI is rising and short signals only print when SMI is falling. Signals opposing the current momentum direction are silently suppressed, reducing noise without adding visual clutter.
▸ HMA Trend Duration Forecast
Tracks the Hull Moving Average slope to determine trend state. Each completed trend’s duration is stored in a rolling sample. The historical average projects the probable length of the current trend. On the chart: a white arrow line shows the forecast window, a Trend ↑ Up Real or Trend ↓ Down Real label updates in real time with the current bar count, and a Prob: label shows the forecasted duration. HMA BUY and HMA SELL labels print at each trend change with optional price display.
▸ Risk Management System
Activates on each confirmed pivot signal and draws five horizontal levels: Entry, Stop Loss (configurable in points or percentage), and three Take Profit tiers calculated as Reward:Risk multiples. Features include:
•TP hit tracking — each level changes to dashed with a check-mark label when price reaches it.
•Trailing stop — moves to breakeven at a configurable threshold, then trails by a fixed offset.
•TP2+ reversal exit — after TP2 is hit, closes the trade if price reverses by a specified distance before TP3.
•P&L dashboard — real-time display of direction, entry, current P&L in the selected currency, R:R ratio, dollar risk/reward at each TP, bars in trade, HMA trend direction, and probable trend length.
•Auto-reset — clears all trade objects when a trade completes (SL, TP3, or TP2+ reversal), readying for the next signal.
▸ Short Trend Dashboard
A 5-component real-time scoring engine that votes on the current bar’s directional bias:
•Momentum (25 pts) — price change vs. ATR-scaled threshold.
•Candle Structure (25 pts) — body-to-range ratio and wick rejection analysis.
•Micro Trend (25 pts) — fast/slow EMA crossover with ATR-normalized gap scoring.
•Acceleration (25 pts) — bar-to-bar momentum change detecting speed gain or loss.
•Volume B/S (10 pts) — estimated buy vs. sell pressure from close position within bar range.
The composite score (0–100) produces a letter grade (A+, A, B, C) and a directional label (BULLISH, BEARISH, LEAN BULL/BEAR, or NEUTRAL). The TEMP Heat Gauge (0–100) blends seven sub-indicators (ROC, RSI, Stochastic, Volume Pressure, EMA Position, Candle, Acceleration) into a single temperature reading (HOT / WARM / NEUTRAL / COOL / COLD). Scalper Mode activates ultra-fast EMA and momentum presets optimized for 1–5 minute charts with Instant Flip detection for single-bar reversals.
▸ Why These Five Engines Together
Each engine answers a different question. The pivot engine identifies where structure turns. The SMI filter confirms whether momentum supports the signal. The HMA forecast provides how long the trend is likely to last. The risk management system defines how much is at stake. The Short Trend Dashboard gives a right now directional confidence score. Together they create a workflow: detect the turn, confirm direction, understand trend context, manage the trade, and monitor conviction — all from a single indicator.
HOW TO USE
▸ Getting Started
1.Add the indicator to your chart. Default settings (Left 5 / Right 1) provide a balanced starting point with strong structural selectivity and minimal delay.
2.BUY labels appear below swing lows. SELL labels appear above swing highs. In Confirmed + Preview mode, semi-transparent labels flicker during bar formation and lock solid at bar close.
3.Use the HMA colored line and trend forecast labels to understand the broader trend context. HMA BUY and HMA SELL labels mark each trend change.
4.Enable Risk Management to see SL/TP lines and the P&L dashboard on each confirmed signal.
5.Monitor the Short Trend Dashboard for real-time confirmation. CONSENSUS +4/5 or +5/5 indicates strong alignment across all components.
▸ Tuning the Pivot Detection
•Left 5 / Right 5: Maximum accuracy. Pivot must be highest/lowest of 11 bars. 5-bar confirmation delay. Best for identifying only major swing points.
•Left 5 / Right 1: Strong selectivity, minimal delay. Preview label flickers on the confirmation bar. Good balance for scalping and active trading.
•Left 5 / Right 0: Zero-delay mode. Label appears on the pivot bar during formation. Fastest possible signal. Useful for scalping when combined with the SMI filter.
•Left 8–10 / Right 0: Zero delay with larger left lookback to compensate for missing right-side confirmation.
▸ Configuring Risk Management
•Enable the Risk Management Overlay toggle. Set Stop Loss in points (e.g., MNQ: 3–5 pts) or as a percentage of entry price.
•Set TP1, TP2, TP3 as Reward:Risk multiples (defaults: 2:1, 3:1, 4:1). Adjust to your trading style.
•Set Point Value for your instrument: MNQ = 2, MES = 5, MYM = 0.5, MGC = 10, MCL = 10.
•The P&L dashboard updates every bar showing dollar P&L, R:R ratio, and TP hit status.
•Enable trailing stop for trades that run: set breakeven threshold, trail start, and trail offset distances.
▸ Reading the Short Trend Dashboard
•Direction + Score: BULLISH/BEARISH/LEAN with a score of 0–100. Grade A+ or A = high conviction.
•TEMP Heat Gauge: Above 70 = HOT (overbought). Below 30 = COLD (oversold). 45–55 = NEUTRAL.
•CONSENSUS: Total vote out of 5 components. +4/5 or +5/5 = strong directional alignment.
•Scalper Mode: Ultra-fast presets for 1–5 min charts. Instant Flip marks single-bar reversals with ** notation.
▸ Label Display Options
•Stack: Label sits directly on the high/low with offset ticks. Text stacks vertically with optional timestamp.
•Pointer: Label offset to the side with a pointer coming off the corner pointing at the exact high/low of the bar.
•Timestamp: Five formats: HH:mm, HH:mm:ss, h:mm a, MMM dd HH:mm, MMM dd. Uses the chart’s time zone.
▸ Suggested Starting Settings
•Scalping (1–5 min): Left 5, Right 1, HMA Length 9–14, Scalper Mode ON, SL 3–5 pts
•Day Trading (5–15 min): Left 5, Right 2–3, HMA Length 14–20, Scalper Mode OFF, SL 5–10 pts
•Swing Trading (1H–4H): Left 5, Right 5, HMA Length 20–50, Scalper Mode OFF, SL 10–25 pts
•Zero-Lag Mode: Left 7–10, Right 0, SMI Filter ON, HMA Length 14, Scalper Mode ON

v7.2 — Performance, Risk Engine & Reliability UpdateThank you to everyone who provided feedback on SMI Fractal Iron HMA. Based on your input and extensive testing, v7.2 delivers bug fixes, performance optimizations, and new risk management features designed to improve your trading workflow.
Bug Fixes:
— Fixed number formatting function that produced incorrect output on certain price levels. Now uses native formatting for reliable comma-separated values across all instruments.
— Corrected Risk Management entry price logic. Entry now properly captures the pivot bar close price, ensuring SL/TP levels align with the actual signal structure.
— Resolved the SMI Bar Color toggle conflict where the Inputs checkbox was overriding the Style tab control. Bar coloring is now managed exclusively through the Style tab, which is the standard TradingView approach.
— Fixed dashboard table allocation to match actual row usage.
— Added safeguard to prevent NaN values from displaying in the P&L Dashboard when a trade auto-resets.
Performance Optimizations:
— Eliminated duplicate volume calculations. Buy/Sell volume is now computed once and shared between the Heat Gauge and Volume B/S scoring components.
— Cached HMA trend duration averages during trend transitions to prevent redundant array calculations.
— Unified ATR calculation across all engines. The Short Trend Engine now shares the same ATR computation as the Signal Filters.
— Short Trend Dashboard is now persistent. The table is created once and updated in place rather than being deleted and recreated on every tick.
— Consolidated duplicate helper functions into a single shared utility for cleaner execution.
New Features:
- ATR Display in P&L Dashboard — The P&L Dashboard now displays the current chart timeframe
- ATR with a dedicated configurable period. When using ATR-based stops, the display automatically shows your multiplier (e.g. "11.39 (1.5x)") so you can see your risk context at a glance. When using point-based stops, it displays the raw ATR value.
- ATR-Based Stop Loss Method — New "ATR %" option in the SL Method dropdown. Set your stop loss as a multiplier of ATR (e.g. 1.0x, 1.5x, 2.0x) and the SL distance automatically adapts to current volatility. This means your stops scale correctly whether you trade MNQ, MGC, MES, or any other instrument without manual adjustment.
- Auto-Detect Point Value — The indicator now automatically reads the correct point value from the exchange data for the current symbol. No more manually changing Point Value when switching between instruments. A manual override option is available for instruments where the auto-detected value may not be correct.
- Cleaner TP Hit Display — Removed the floating TP marker labels from chart lines. TP hit confirmation is now shown exclusively on the price labels (right side) with a larger, more visible checkmark. Reduces chart clutter while maintaining clear trade tracking.
Updated Defaults:
Default settings have been updated to reflect a production scalping configuration. Key changes include: Right Bars set to 3 for stronger confirmation, HMA Smoothing reduced to 10 for faster response, Trend Detection Sensitivity set to 1, and TP ratios adjusted to 1:1:2:3. All defaults can be customized through the Inputs panel.
This indicator is designed to work on any instrument and any timeframe. All calculations are performed within the script using standard Pine Script functions. For questions or feedback, leave a comment on the indicator page.

SMI Fractal Iron HMAVersion 7.7 Update — March 6, 2026
What’s New in v7.7
This is a major usability and detection update. The indicator’s core settings have been simplified into intuitive presets, a new Zero-Lag signal mode delivers instant reversal detection with minimal delay, and a suite of enhancements adds signal grading, session tracking, partial exits, higher-timeframe confirmation, historical label control, and bar color management.
Simplified Signal Sensitivity
The old Left Bars and Right Bars inputs have been replaced with a single Signal Sensitivity dropdown. Choose Aggressive for more frequent, faster signals. Choose Normal for balanced detection. Choose Conservative for fewer, higher-quality signals. Each preset maps to optimized internal values so you don’t have to guess. Advanced users can select Custom to access the raw Left and Right Bars sliders directly.
Zero-Lag Signal Mode with Reversal Detection
Signal Mode now offers three clear options. Confirmed waits for the full confirmation delay before printing a signal. Confirmed + Preview adds live unconfirmed previews on the developing bar. Zero-Lag is an entirely new detection mode built specifically for this update.
Rather than simply removing the confirmation delay, Zero-Lag uses a custom reversal detection engine. It identifies the highest high or lowest low within the lookback window and fires a signal the moment price pulls away from that extreme on the very next bar. This detects actual swing reversals with just one bar of lag — the minimum needed to confirm that a turn has begun. Labels display with tildes (~ BUY ~ / ~ SELL ~) and a slightly transparent background as a visual reminder that these signals carry no multi-bar confirmation.
Historical HMA Label Toggle
A new toggle controls whether HMA BUY and SELL labels persist on the chart or show only the most recent signal. When “Show Historical HMA Labels” is enabled, every HMA trend flip leaves its label on the chart so you can see the full history of HMA reversals at a glance. When disabled, only the latest HMA label remains, keeping the chart clean. Found in the HMA Trend Overlay settings.
Bar Color Toggle
A new toggle in the Bar Colors section lets you switch between SMI-based bar coloring and TradingView’s default candle colors. When enabled, bars are colored green for bullish SMI momentum, red for bearish, and gray during chop. When disabled, the indicator passes control back to your chart’s native color settings. All three colors remain fully customizable.
Signal Quality Grade on Labels
Every BUY and SELL label now displays its Short Trend grade at the moment of confirmation. Grades range from A+ down through A, B, and C based on how many momentum components agree and how strong the score is. This gives you instant at-a-glance signal quality without checking the dashboard. Toggle on or off via “Show Grade on Label” in Pivot Labels settings.
Session Win/Loss Tracker
The P&L Dashboard now tracks cumulative performance across all completed trades on the chart. A dedicated SESSION section displays wins, losses, win rate percentage, average R:R, and net P&L. Stats accumulate as trades complete via TP hit, Stop Loss, or TP2 Reversal Exit.
Multi-TP Partial Exit Modeling
The new Partial Exit system splits your contracts across TP1, TP2, and TP3. As each target is hit, realized P&L locks in for those contracts while remaining contracts continue running. The dashboard shows both realized profit and contracts still open. Configure contracts per level in the Partial Exit input group.
Confirmation Timeframe (CTF) Dashboard
The Short Trend engine now runs on a configurable higher timeframe and displays its direction, score, grade, heat gauge, and full component breakdown in a dedicated CTF dashboard. Use it as a visual confirmation layer or enable the CTF Filter to block signals when the higher timeframe disagrees. The CTF table can display separately or combined inside the Chart dashboard. Built-in validation warns you if the CTF timeframe is not higher than the chart timeframe.
Dashboard Improvements
Dashboard headers now display as “Chart · 2m” and “CTF · 15m” for cleaner identification. The P&L Dashboard shows the active SL method so you always know which mode is in use. All dashboards now properly detect position input changes and recreate their tables when moved.
New Alert: TP2 Reversal Exit
A new alert condition fires when the TP2+ Reversal Exit triggers. This complements the existing TP1, TP2, TP3, and Stop Loss alerts.
Bug Fixes and Optimizations
Fixed P&L Dashboard not recreating when its position input changed. Fixed CTF filter silently blocking signals when set to an invalid timeframe. Consolidated duplicate color calculations into shared helper functions. HMA Trend Duration forecast labels repositioned for better visual separation on lower timeframes.
How to Use
SMI Fractal Iron HMA is a complete signal and risk management overlay. It combines SMI-filtered fractal pivot detection with a custom zero-lag reversal engine, a five-component Short Trend momentum engine, Hull Moving Average trend context with duration forecasting, and a full TP/SL risk management system with live P&L tracking.
Apply it to any liquid market — futures, forex, stocks, crypto, or commodities — on any timeframe. Start by choosing your Signal Sensitivity preset (Aggressive, Normal, or Conservative) and Signal Mode (Confirmed, Confirmed + Preview, or Zero-Lag). BUY and SELL labels appear at detected reversals with a grade showing signal quality at a glance.
The Short Trend dashboard provides real-time momentum scoring, and the optional CTF dashboard adds higher-timeframe confirmation. The Risk Management overlay draws Entry, Stop Loss, and three Take Profit levels with live P&L, R:R tracking, session stats, and optional partial exit modeling. All settings are fully configurable through the input panel.

SMI Fractal Iron HMA — v7.9 UpdateThis update focuses on Risk Label readability and a missing TP3 visual cue that bugged me every time I scrolled through old trades.
🔧 Bug Fix
TP3 Checkmark on Hit — When TP3 was reached, the line correctly turned dashed but the inline price label was missing the ✓ checkmark. TP1 and TP2 had it; TP3 did not. Now consistent across all three TP labels.
✨ New Inputs
Risk Label Size (Risk Display group) — User-selectable size for ENTRY, SL, TP1, TP2, and TP3 inline price labels. Tiny / Small / Normal / Large / Huge. Defaults to Normal for improved readability over the previous hardcoded Small.
Boost Size on TP Hit toggle (Risk Display group) — When ON (default), TP labels bump up one size tier when hit (Small→Normal, Normal→Large, etc.) for visual emphasis. When OFF, all labels stay at the user-selected base size for a uniform look.
🎯 Why This Matters
If you've been squinting at small price labels on a 4K monitor, this update is for you. Setting Risk Label Size to Large or Huge makes Entry, SL, and all three TP levels instantly readable from across the room — perfect for traders who keep multiple charts open or have visual accessibility needs.
The Boost on Hit toggle gives you flexibility: leave it on if you like the dynamic emphasis when a TP gets tagged, turn it off if you prefer a clean static look.
📋 Compatibility
Drop-in replacement for v7.8. All existing settings preserved. New defaults applied automatically — Risk Label Size = Normal, Boost on TP Hit = ON.

UPDATE — June 16, 2026SMI Fractal Iron HMA v8.0 is live. This release adds a raw SMI readout, a zero-lag scalping engine, a rebuilt trend forecast, and persistent trade levels.
What's new:
SMI readout — the raw SMI value now appears on both the chart-timeframe and confluence-timeframe dashboards, with a live RISING / FALLING / CHOP state beside it.
Zero-Lag HMA engine — a new toggle swaps the standard Hull for a zero-lag variant built for scalping (off by default). When it's on, the HMA BUY/SELL labels read ZLHMA so you always know which engine is firing.
Rebuilt Trend Forecast — the forecast now projects an angled slope off the current bar with a Real (current run length) and Avg (typical run length) readout, drawn as a dotted body with an arrow tail.
Persistent trade levels — Entry, Stop, and all three Targets stay on the chart after a trade completes, holding until the next signal. Auto-Reset is off by default.
Independent breakeven — the breakeven stop is now its own toggle, separate from trailing.
Display polish — price labels and the P&L panel are on by default, plus cleaner checkmarks on target hits and general label tidying.
Confirmed-mode signals don't repaint, and as always this is built first for live trading.

UPDATE — June 16, 2026A quick refinement pass on v8.0:
The Trend Forecast now draws reliably, and its arrow angles with the live HMA/ZLHMA slope instead of sitting flat.
The HMA/ZLHMA line changes color the moment the slope turns — the earlier one-bar color lag is gone.
Entry, Stop, and all three Targets stay on the chart consistently across every Signal Sensitivity setting.
Confirmed-mode signals remain non-repainting.
Great Trading!

UPDATE — June 17, 2026SMI Fractal Iron HMA — v8.20
This update is a full pass over the risk engine, a new supply/demand
zone layer, and several refinements to the ZLHMA trend display.
RISK MANAGEMENT
- Stop loss is now ATR-sensitive by default, so the stop distance and
the TP1/TP2/TP3 ladder scale with current volatility instead of a
fixed point value. A fixed Points mode is still available.
- Stop, breakeven, and trailing distances now all follow one master
ATR / Points switch, so they stay consistent with each other.
- New ATR Timeframe option — read volatility from the Chart timeframe
or from the Daily timeframe (non-repainting, most recent completed
daily value).
- Separate multiplier sets for Chart mode and Daily mode, so each can
be tuned without disturbing the other.
MOBIUS TREND PIVOT ZONES (new layer)
- Added a supply/demand zone engine that anchors zones to swing highs
and lows, with rollover lines and on-zone labels. Can be toggled on
or off.
ZLHMA TREND DISPLAY
- New ZLHMA Responsiveness control (0–1). At the default it behaves
exactly as before; lower it to soften the lead and round off the
turns so the line hugs price more closely — dial in the look you
prefer without changing the smoothing length.
- The ZLHMA line color now flips the instant the slope turns, in step
with the forecast, rather than waiting for bar close.
- ZLHMA flip labels now anchor their pointer tip directly on the bar —
BUY on the tail, SELL on the wick — so they no longer float off
the candle.
SIGNAL LABELS
- Grade labels and ZLHMA labels are placed directionally and stack
cleanly when they land close together, removing overlapping text
near a signal.
All on-chart text continues to offer adjustable sizing.
Great Trading!
