The investment case centers on elevated political uncertainty, persistent fiscal risks, and strong investment demand for gold.
Although higher U.S. Treasury yields and a stronger dollar have recently pressured gold prices, the research views the correction as an opportunity to gain exposure to an asset supported by structural diversification of international reserves and institutional capital flows.
The upcoming U.S. midterm elections on November 3 represent an additional source of uncertainty. A change in the balance of power in Congress could complicate the administration’s legislative agenda and alter expectations around fiscal spending, trade policy, and regulation. These factors could support demand for gold as a portfolio-diversification asset.
Investment demand remains another important part of the thesis. According to World Gold Council data cited in the research, physically backed global gold ETFs attracted a record $31 billion in Q3 2026, including $10 billion in September. ETF holdings increased by 211 tonnes during the quarter.
Central banks also remained net buyers of gold, with purchases totaling 39 tonnes in August. The research views these flows as evidence that diversification of investment portfolios and international reserves continues to support demand despite pressure from real interest rates.
Interest-rate expectations remain the main cyclical factor for gold. Elevated Treasury yields and expectations of tighter monetary policy have increased the opportunity cost of holding a non-yielding asset and contributed to the recent correction.
However, any slowdown in inflation, decline in real yields, or weakening of the U.S. dollar could support a renewed rise in gold prices.
The principal risks are further increases in real yields, a stronger dollar, outflows from gold ETFs, and a more favorable-than-expected resolution of political uncertainty.
The $415 target reflects a broader recovery scenario and does not assume that the target must be reached immediately after the elections.
Our rating is Buy, with a $415 price target and a recommended stop-loss at $335. At approximately $366.25, the $415 target implies around 13.3% potential upside.
