10 Years of Trading… This Is the Strategy I Kept Coming Back To

📊 10 Years Trading… This Is What I’ve Settled On

I’ve been trading for around 10 years now.

Tried most things — indicators, systems, strategies…
and if I’m honest, I spent a long time overcomplicating it.

I’ve had periods where I’ve won big… and lost big.

That’s just part of the journey.

And what doesn’t get spoken about enough is the emotional side of this:

Overtrading
Chasing moves
Second guessing yourself

I’ve been through all of it.

🧠 Why I Came Back to Volume

Through everything I tried, one thing kept pulling me back:

👉 Volume

Because it shows something most indicators don’t:

Where business is actually being done
Where price is being accepted

I’ve now spent the last 6 years refining how I use it.

⚠️ The Truth About Volume

Volume isn’t perfect.

Especially with gold — we’re not seeing the entire market.

So using it on its own isn’t enough.

The edge comes from combining it with:

👉 Sessions
👉 Structure
👉 Liquidity

That’s where it starts to make sense.

🔄 What I’ve Refined Recently

Even in the last week, I’ve made a small but important change.

I’ve added VWAP into my model.

Not as a signal… just as confirmation.

👉 If volume + VWAP + price all align → stronger trade
👉 If they don’t → I stay out

It’s about quality, not quantity.

⚙️ My Exact Setup (Simple & Repeatable)

Sessions (LuxAlgo):

New York: 13:00 – 22:00
London: 07:00 – 16:00
Tokyo: 00:00 – 09:00
Sydney: Off
VWAP: On

Volume:

Standard volume (no buy/sell split)
MA Length: 20

Anchored Volume Profile:

Row size: 90
Value area: 70%
Volume: Total
VAH / VAL / POC: On
Developing POC: On

Previous Day High/Low: On

🧠 How I Actually Trade This
1. Build Context (Asia + London)

Before NY opens, I map:

VAH (Value Area High)
VAL (Value Area Low)
POC (Point of Control)

This shows me:

👉 Where price is accepted
👉 Where fair value sits

I then remove the volume and leave clean levels.

I also mark liquidity zones (highs, lows, equal levels).

2. Wait for New York

I don’t trade the open.

I wait for:

A liquidity sweep
A strong move
Or a clear reaction

Then I anchor NY volume.

👉 I trade the reaction, not the open.

3. The Core Idea

I don’t trade levels blindly anymore.

👉 I trade how price reacts to those levels

📉 Short Example
Price reaches London VAH
Liquidity above gets taken
Price fails and returns into value
NY POC forms lower
VWAP acting as resistance

👉 Entry on confirmation

Targets:

London POC
London VAL
📈 Long Example
Price reaches London VAL
Liquidity below gets taken
Price reclaims value
NY POC shifts higher
VWAP acting as support

👉 Entry on confirmation

Targets:

London POC
London VAH
🔷 Trendlines & Confluence

I’ve also started paying more attention to trendlines.

Not as a standalone tool…

But when they align with:

Volume levels
Liquidity
NY reaction

👉 That’s stacked confluence.

Those are the trades I want.

✅ My Entry Rules

I only trade when everything lines up:

Key location (value + liquidity)
Clear rejection or acceptance
Confirmation candle
Volume supporting the move
VWAP alignment
(Bonus) Trendline confluence

If it’s not there… I don’t trade.

⚠️ What I Avoid
Trading in the middle
Entering early
Forcing NY trades
Ignoring volume
Overcomplicating charts

Most losses come from these.

💰 Risk Management
SL → beyond liquidity / rejection
TP1 → next value level
TP2 → runner

Take partials. Let the rest work.

🧠 Final Thought

After 10 years of trying everything…

I’ve realised trading doesn’t need to be complicated.

It just needs to make sense.

👉 Where is value?
👉 Where has liquidity been taken?
👉 Who is in control?

Then follow it.

Still refining this daily, but this approach has brought:

More clarity
Better patience
Fewer trades
Better execution

Less noise. More consistency.

If you’re going to give this approach a go, let me know how you get on 👇

Or if you already use volume — how do you incorporate it into your strategy?
