# Opening ATM Breakout & Buffer Levels — NIFTY & Bank NIFTY

## Overview

The Opening ATM Breakout & Buffer Levels indicator is designed for intraday traders who want to identify potential breakout opportunities in NIFTY 50 and Bank NIFTY using predefined price levels derived from the opening 5-minute candle.

The indicator establishes an ATM reference level, plots upper and lower breakout bands, and calculates a dynamic buffer level when a valid breakout occurs. It also provides visual entry signals and allows traders to monitor repeated breakout opportunities throughout the trading session.

The objective is to provide a structured, rule-based framework for observing price action around predefined levels.

## How It Works

### 1. Opening ATM Reference

The indicator uses the closing price of the first 5-minute candle to calculate the nearest ATM strike reference.

- **NIFTY:** Nearest 50-point strike interval.
- **Bank NIFTY:** Nearest 100-point strike interval.

### 2. Upper and Lower Breakout Bands

The indicator calculates the breakout bands using instrument-specific distances.

| Parameter | NIFTY | Bank NIFTY |
|---|---:|---:|
| Upper band | ATM + 54 points | ATM + 108 points |
| Reference level | ATM | ATM |
| Lower band | ATM − 54 points | ATM − 108 points |

These levels remain fixed throughout the trading day.

### 3. Breakout Detection

A bullish breakout setup is identified when price reaches or crosses the upper band while the breakout candle remains entirely above the ATM reference.

A bearish breakout setup is identified when price reaches or crosses the lower band while the breakout candle remains entirely below the ATM reference.

This condition helps distinguish breakouts from candles that span the ATM reference level.

### 4. Dynamic Buffer Calculation

Once a valid breakout is detected, the indicator calculates a buffer level using the breakout candle's extreme.

**Bullish setup:**

Buffer Level = Breakout Candle High + Buffer Points

**Bearish setup:**

Buffer Level = Breakout Candle Low − Buffer Points

The buffer distance can be customised through the indicator settings.

- **NIFTY:** 5–15 points.
- **Bank NIFTY:** 10–20 points.

### 5. Entry Signals

A BUY signal is generated when a subsequent 5-minute candle crosses the bullish buffer level.

A SELL signal is generated when a subsequent 5-minute candle crosses the bearish buffer level.

Signals are confirmed at candle close. This reduces the risk of reacting to temporary intrabar price movements.

### 6. Repeated Breakout Setups

When price returns to and touches the ATM reference level after a breakout, the existing buffer setup is cleared.

The indicator can then identify a fresh valid breakout and calculate a new buffer level. This process can repeat during the trading session.

All levels and setup states reset at the beginning of the next trading day.

## Indicator Features

- Automatic ATM reference calculation.
- Instrument-specific upper and lower breakout bands.
- Dynamic buffer levels based on breakout candle highs and lows.
- Configurable buffer distances for NIFTY and Bank NIFTY.
- Visual BUY and SELL signals.
- ATM reference line for stop-loss planning.
- Customisable line colours, thicknesses and label text sizes.
- Alerts for bullish breakouts, bearish breakouts and buffer-entry signals.
- Support for repeated setups during the same trading session.

## Recommended Usage

1. Apply the indicator to a NIFTY or Bank NIFTY chart.
2. Select the 5-minute timeframe.
3. Choose the appropriate index in the settings.
4. Configure the buffer distance according to your preference.
5. Wait for a valid breakout and observe the resulting buffer level.
6. Evaluate the subsequent price action before taking any trade.

The ATM reference is displayed as a potential stop-loss reference. Traders should assess whether this level is appropriate for the trade's risk profile before entering a position.

## Important Notes

This indicator is designed for technical analysis and educational purposes. It does not guarantee profitable trades or predict future price movements.

The default band distances and buffer ranges are predefined strategy parameters, not universally optimal values. Traders should validate the rules using historical data and forward testing before applying them to live trading.

Signals are generated from chart OHLC data and confirmed at candle close. Where multiple price levels are crossed within the same candle, the precise intrabar sequence may not be identifiable.

This is an indicator, not an automated trading system. It does not place orders, manage positions or guarantee execution at the displayed prices.
