The Best Trade Was No Trade

The Trade That Changed My Trading… Was the One I Didn’t Take

We always talk about entries, indicators and perfect setups. But one of the biggest shifts in my trading happened when I started not trading. For a long time I felt like I needed to be in the market to make progress. More signals. More charts. More action. But the truth was:

👉 Many of my losses didn’t come from bad analysis.
👉 They came from forcing trades that weren’t really there.

🧠 What changed my mindset

Instead of asking “Where can I enter?”, I started asking:
• Is this trade actually necessary?
• Would I still take it if position size was 3x bigger?
• Am I reacting to price… or to boredom?

Most of the time, the answer was uncomfortable.

💰 Risk management became my real edge

I reduced position size and suddenly noticed:
• I stopped staring at every candle
• I became more patient with confirmations
• Targets became clearer because I wasn’t emotionally attached

Funny enough, my charts didn’t change.
My behaviour did.

📊 What I focus on now
• Structure first, signals second
• Risk first, reward second
• Fewer trades, cleaner decisions

Not perfect. Just calmer.

💬 Honest question to you

What was harder for you to learn:
Taking trades… or not taking them? I feel like most traders don’t talk enough about the second part.
