BTD - Session Markers

BTD - Session Markers places scheduled exchange openings, session closes and continuous-trading endpoints directly on an intraday chart. It provides a timetable for following the progression of the trading day across Asia, Europe and the United States.

The indicator is useful for observing price action around global session changes, including on NQ and MNQ charts. Its markers represent scheduled times, not predictions of market direction or guaranteed increases in volatility.

MARKETS AND SCHEDULES

There are ten independently selectable opening markers and ten independently selectable closing markers. All times below are exchange-local times; the indicator converts them automatically.

• CME Globex (CME): NQ equity-index futures reopen at 18:00 New York time, Sunday through Thursday. Sessions close at 17:00, Monday through Friday. Monday–Thursday closes begin the daily maintenance break; Friday's close begins the weekend closure.
• Australian Securities Exchange (ASX): normal trading starts within 09:59:45–10:00:00 Sydney time. Continuous trading ends at 16:00.
• Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE): cash session opens at 09:00 and closes at 15:30 Tokyo time.
• Korea Exchange (KRX): regular cash session opens at 09:00 and closes at 15:30 Seoul time.
• Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE): regular cash session opens at 09:00 and is scheduled to close at 13:30 Taipei time.
• Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (SEHK): morning continuous trading opens at 09:30; afternoon continuous trading ends at 16:00 Hong Kong time.
• Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE): morning continuous trading opens at 09:30; the regular stock session closes at 15:00 Shanghai time.
• London Stock Exchange (LSE): the main SETS session is scheduled to open at 08:00; continuous trading ends at 16:30 London time.
• Deutsche Börse Xetra (Xetra): the main session is scheduled to open at 09:00; continuous trading ends at 17:30 German local time.
• Nasdaq Stock Market (Nasdaq): the regular cash session opens at 09:30 and closes at 16:00 New York time.

The ASX opening marker is placed at the earliest start of its normal-trading window, 09:59:45. Its tooltip gives the full window. For ASX, Hong Kong, London and Xetra, the closing option is explicitly called “Continuous Trading End”: closing-auction activity follows that boundary. The indicator does not present those endpoints as final auction completion times.

READABLE LABELS

Short names are the default, with compact event descriptions such as “TSE Open”, “Nasdaq Close” and “LSE Cont. end”. Full names are available as an alternative.

Labels cycle through three staggered rows by default. The row count can be adjusted from one to six, with controls for row spacing, top or bottom placement, edge inset, label size, transparency and text colour. One row restores a single-row layout. Staggering reduces overlap; densely zoomed-out charts can still require fewer enabled markers or a closer zoom.

Events occurring at exactly the same time share one vertical line and one label containing each event. These combined markers have a separate configurable colour. Hover over a label for full exchange names, event types, dates, exchange-local times, converted times and schedule notes.

TIME ZONES AND LINE STYLES

Label times can use UK time, New York time or UTC. Exchange-local time zones handle daylight-saving conversion automatically, including weeks when different regions change their clocks on different dates. The chosen label time zone is independent of the chart's time-axis setting.

• Dashed lines: upcoming openings or futures reopenings.
• Solid lines: openings or futures reopenings whose scheduled time has passed.
• Dotted lines: closing or continuous-trading-end markers, both upcoming and past.

If an opening and closing event share a timestamp, the opening-line style takes priority. Line styles update when the script receives chart updates.

DISPLAY WINDOW AND DEFAULTS

The default window includes one calendar day behind and three ahead, plus the reference day. Each direction can be adjusted from zero to fourteen calendar days. The window follows the latest chart date; live calculations use the current update time.

Opening markers are enabled by default. Closing markers are available individually and initially disabled. Venue colours, shared-marker colour, line width and line transparency are configurable. Dates can optionally be added to labels, and labels can be hidden while retaining the vertical lines.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

This is a normal-week schedule overlay, not a live exchange-status service. It filters ordinary weekends but does not detect exchange holidays, early closes, special sessions, emergency closures or individual auction delays. Current schedule rules are applied throughout the displayed window; it is not a historical exchange-calendar database.

Lunch breaks, afternoon restarts, extended-hours trading and Xetra's extended retail sessions are not marked. The CME profile represents the NQ equity-index futures schedule and should not be assumed to cover every CME product.

Use an intraday, time-based chart with sufficient session coverage for the clearest result. Chart gaps and missing bars can affect the visual placement of time-based drawings. The indicator provides session context only; it does not generate trade signals, alerts, orders or backtest results.
