- Stock up 16% since Muse launch
Meta’s AI strategy now has a physical device, a 3 billion retail network and a proposed transaction-fee model behind it.
🧠 Charm gives Muse a body
- Mark Zuckerberg used Meta Connect to unveil Muse Charm, a small pendant-like device that fits on a keychain and is expected to ship in December. It has a fingerprint sensor, a small screen showing the Muse avatar and real-time voice interaction.
- The device is designed to make Muse available without opening a phone app or wearing smart glasses. Zuckerberg described it as the fastest way to speak with Muse and show it what is happening around you.
- Muse has quickly become the centrepiece of Zuck’s AI strategy. The app can send emails, book travel, organise finances, order goods and complete other multistep tasks. It is available free, with $20 and $100 monthly subscription tiers for heavier use.
🛍️ Meta wants a cut
- Meta announced new Muse retail partnerships with Walmart, Best Buy and Gap, adding to existing relationships with Shopify and PayPal. The assistant can search for products, make recommendations and help complete purchases on a user’s behalf.
- That points to a second monetization path beyond subscriptions. Meta says it plans to take a fee from transactions executed through Muse, positioning the agent between consumers and merchants in much the same way search engines, app stores and social platforms have controlled digital discovery.
- Amazon has blocked Muse from shopping on its platform, citing concerns around unauthorized access, privacy, security and credentials. Shopify, by contrast, has embraced the service through Shop Pay.
📈 Traders bought the story
- Meta closed at $744.10 on Wednesday, up 1% even as the wider Nasdaq weakened.
- The shares have posted a double-digit gain since Muse launched on September 8 and Meta’s market value has risen by hundreds of billions of dollars as investors reassess the company’s heavy AI spending.
- The market appears to be responding to evidence that Meta may be building a new consumer platform rather than simply spending more on data centers.
