Day Trade VWAP + EMA 9/20

The Day Trade VWAP + EMA 9/20 indicator is a trend-following momentum strategy optimized for intraday traders. It combines the institutional weight of the Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) with the fast-reacting momentum tracking of the 9-period and 20-period Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs).
By filtering trades based on market structure (above or below VWAP) and moving average alignment, this indicator isolates high-probability trend continuation setups while filtering out choppy, sideways market noise.
How It Works (Signal Logic)
The indicator scans for specific market structures to generate buying and selling triggers:
🟢 Long Entry (Buy Signal)
A green upward triangle appears beneath the price bar when all three criteria are met:
1. Trend Filter: Price is trading above the VWAP (indicating an intraday bullish bias).
2. Momentum Filter: The 9 EMA is trending above the 20 EMA (confirming an active bullish trend).
3. Trigger: The current price bar actively crosses over the 9 EMA from below.
🔴 Short Entry (Sell Signal)
A red downward triangle appears above the price bar when all three criteria are met:
1. Trend Filter: Price is trading below the VWAP (indicating an intraday bearish bias).
2. Momentum Filter: The 9 EMA is trending below the 20 EMA (confirming an active bearish trend).
3. Trigger: The current price bar actively crosses under the 9 EMA from above.
Best Practices for Day Trading
• Timeframes: This tool is specifically engineered for intraday charts. It performs best on the 1-minute, 3-minute, or 5-minute intervals.
• Volume Confirmation: Because VWAP relies heavily on volume data, signals generated during peak volume hours (e.g., the New York or London market opens) are inherently more reliable than signals during lunch hours or late-session consolidation.
• Stop-Loss Placement:
• For Longs, a common technical exit is placed just below the 20 EMA or the recent swing low.
• For Shorts, a stop loss can be managed just above the 20 EMA or the recent swing high.
If you want to take this script further, let me know:
• Would you like me to convert this into a backtesting strategy so you can track historical profitability, win rates, and drawdowns?
• Do you want to add customizable input settings (like changing the EMA lengths or adding alert notifications)?
