Chop Shield
The Chop Shield is an all-in-one market state indicator designed to solve the two biggest problems for intraday traders: over-trading in sideways "chop" and entering breakouts with no institutional backing.
Built specifically for high-speed environments like SPY 0DTE and Tick Charts, this script uses a multi-layered confluence of volatility, momentum, and adaptive volume to "gray out" the noise and highlight high-probability "coiled spring" releases.
### Key Features
Smart "Traffic Light" Candle Coloring:
Slate Blue (#708090): The "Neutral Zone." This triggers during volatility squeezes, low ADX (Average Directional Index), or the mid-day "Lunch Doldrums." If it’s Slate, you stay at your desk.
White/Black High-Contrast Bodies: Once the market breaks out of chop, the candles return to a clean White (Bullish) or Black (Bearish) state.
The Squeeze Engine (Orange Background):
Uses a Bollinger Band/Keltner Channel relationship to identify periods of extreme volatility contraction. These "Squeezes" are the precursor to the largest moves of the day.
High-Confidence "Pressure" Signals:
Green/Red Diamonds: These appear when a candle meets strict price action criteria (70%+ solid body, closing at extremes) paired with high relative volume.
Live Bias Arrows: "BUY/SELL" markers trigger only when the High-Confidence bar aligns with the VWAP Slope and price location.
Adaptive Session Volume (The Yellow Marker):
Standard RVOL indicators are useless at the open because volume is always high. Our Adaptive Logic uses a 2.5x threshold during the 9:30–10:15 AM window and scales down to 1.5x for the rest of the day. If you see a yellow marker, it means volume is truly abnormal for that specific time of day.
Professional Filtering:
RTH Only: Automatically hides all signals and coloring during Pre-Market and Post-Market to keep your chart clean for the opening bell.
Lunch Doldrums: Hard-coded "Gray Zone" between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM EST to protect you from the lowest-probability trading window.
### How to Trade It
This indicator is best used as a Validation Filter for levels-based strategies (Initial Balance, ORB, or Gap Fills).
The Setup: Identify a Volatility Squeeze (Orange Background) where candles are Slate Blue.
The Trigger: Wait for the Squeeze to end and the candles to turn White or Black.
The Confirmation: Look for a Green/Red Diamond paired with an Adaptive Volume Spike (Yellow "|").
The Exit: Use the Blue VWAP Line as your dynamic trailing stop or mean-reversion target.
