Contract Notional

249
Contract Notional shows two numbers in a small table on your chart:

• 1 contract: the full dollar value of one futures contract at the current price
• Tick value: what one minimum price move is worth for one contract

Knowing the notional value helps with position sizing, comparing exposure across markets, and seeing how much leverage one contract carries for your account size. The tick value turns a stop distance in ticks into dollars at a glance.

HOW IT WORKS

Notional = last price × value of a 1.0 price move
Tick value = minimum tick × value of a 1.0 price move

For most futures the script uses TradingView's built-in point value for the symbol. For example, ES at 5,800 × $50 = $290,000.

WHY GRAINS, MEATS AND SOFTS ARE HANDLED SEPARATELY

CBOT grains, CME livestock and ICE softs are quoted in cents (currency "USX" on TradingView). Multiplying their price by the built-in point value does not give dollars per contract. For these markets the script uses each contract's exchange size and shows the result in USD:

ZC, ZW, KE, ZS, ZO (5,000 bu) · XC, XW, XK (1,000 bu) · ZL soybean oil · ZM soybean meal · LE live cattle · GF feeder cattle · HE lean hogs · KC coffee · CT cotton · SB sugar #11 · OJ orange juice

Example: corn at 451¢ × 5,000 bushels = $22,550 per contract, tick value $12.50.

SETTINGS

• Position: Top Right, Top Center or Bottom Right
• Show tick value: on/off
• Text size: tiny to large
• USD per 1.0 price move: manual override for any contract you want to set yourself (0 = automatic). It applies to every symbol while set, so return it to 0 when you switch markets.

NOTES

• Works on continuous contracts (ZC1!, ES1!) and on individual contract months.
• Values are shown in the contract's own currency (for example, EUR for FDAX). They are not converted to USD, except for the cents-quoted markets listed above.
• Notional value is the full contract value, not the margin requirement.
• Always check contract specifications with your exchange or broker before trading.

This script is a calculation and display tool only. It does not generate trading signals and is not financial advice.
