Gold After Sharp Drop: Correction or Reversal Signal?

1 181
Hello everyone,

In the latest international session, gold experienced a notably sharp decline after reaching a short-term peak. Spot gold fell back to around $5,144/oz, down more than $100 from the prior high near $5,250, while April futures also eased to roughly $5,162. This move stands out, especially as gold had just marked its highest level in about three weeks.

From my perspective, the main driver remains short-term profit-taking. After a steep rally, many tactical positions tend to close to lock in gains, and when selling emerges simultaneously, the market often undergoes a fast, technically driven pullback. At the same time, several intermarket factors added pressure: the US Dollar Index edged higher, while US equities rallied strongly, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average, Nasdaq Composite, and S&P 500 all advancing. Capital therefore showed signs of rotating toward risk assets, temporarily reducing safe-haven demand. In that context, gold’s pullback appears understandable and does not yet imply a broader trend reversal.

From a macro perspective, despite the sharp short-term decline, my medium- to long-term constructive view on gold remains unchanged. Geopolitical and global trade uncertainties are still present. According to recent European assessments, the US administration is considering new tariff measures that could heighten international trade tensions. Such factors typically support long-term demand for defensive assets like gold.

Wishing you all successful trading!
