EV startup delivered 14,183 vehicles in the fourth quarter, surpassing analysts’ estimates and growing 2% from the year-ago quarter.

  • Rivian stock RIVN shot to the upside on Friday by a whopping 25%, kicking off the new year on a superbly high note. The EV startup posted delivery and production numbers that were pretty fine, nothing groundbreaking. But investors rushed to buy up the shares after the company said that supply chain constraints were largely in the rearview (or more precisely, in 2024), because 2025 should be a banger for production.
  • Let’s see those numbers: for the full year 2024, Rivian produced 49,476 vehicles and delivered 51,579 units (not much different than in 2023). The company had projected production figures to be 47,000 to 49,000 and deliveries to land anywhere between 50,500 and 52,000. In the fourth quarter, the Tesla rival (for trucks mostly) built 12,727 vehicles, down roughly 27% year over year. It delivered 14,183 vehicles, up about 2% from the year-ago quarter.
  • Both production and sales should get a boost next year. “The previously discussed shortage of a shared component on the R1 and RCV platforms is no longer a constraint on Rivian’s production,” the company said in a news release. Rivian itself didn’t issue any guidance for the year, but Wall Street expects to see 56,000 cars shipped to buyers. With the daily pop, shares of Rivian turned positive for the year by 24%.
