HUNT BITCOIN BUY/SELL COT INDICATOR (COT lib)

HUNT BITCOIN BUY/SELL COT INDICATOR (COT lib)
A rebuild of Francis Hunt’s Bitcoin Commitment of Traders buy/sell indicator (V1.1), updated to run on TradingView’s official COT data library. The original pulled from the QUANDL:CFTC feed, which TradingView discontinued, leaving the script with a permanent “Invalid symbol” runtime error. This version keeps the original logic intact and only swaps the data source.
What it does
Reads the weekly CFTC Legacy report for CME Bitcoin futures (code 133741) and tracks the percentage of open interest held by the 4 largest traders on the long and short side. The spread between the two (𝚫 = shorts − longs) drives the signals:
LONG — 𝚫 ≤ 5. Large traders are no longer skewed short.
SUPER LONG — LONG condition plus 10-day historical volatility ≤ 20.
SHORT — 4 largest shorts ≥ 70% of open interest.
SUPER SHORT — SHORT condition plus historical volatility ≤ 20.
CAUTION — 𝚫 crosses above 45 while largest shorts exceed 67.5%.
A dotted orange line marks March 15, 2019, the start of the signal window. Hover any label for the underlying values. The legend table in the bottom-right can be toggled off in settings.
Notes
COT data is published weekly, so signals update once per week regardless of chart timeframe. Works on any BTC chart; the COT request is independent of the chart symbol — only the volatility calculation uses chart price. CFTC code and metric name are exposed as inputs in case the library naming changes.
Original concept © Francis Hunt – The Market/Crypto Sniper. Requires Pine Script v6.
