FX Market Sessions (by boitoki)

Gold does not move the same way throughout the day.

Each trading session has a different role in how structure builds and how volatility is released.

On this 15-minute chart, I marked the major sessions to study how price behavior shifts across the cycle.

🕒 Session Times (UTC)

New York: 13:00 – 22:00
Sydney: 22:00 – 07:00
Tokyo: 00:00 – 09:00
London: 08:00 – 17:00
New York: 13:00 – 22:00

(All times UTC — adjust to your broker.)

🔄 Session Flow
NY → Sydney → Tokyo → London → NY

Structure builds.
Volatility releases.

🇦🇺 Sydney — Transition Phase
• Lower liquidity
• Slower reaction
• Often retraces part of the late NY move

Bridge between NY close and Tokyo open.
Avoid aggressive entries here.

🇯🇵 Tokyo — Structure Building
• Smaller candles
• Slower movement
• Compression / ranging
• Builds liquidity

Best for observing structure.
Avoid forcing breakouts.

🇬🇧 London — Directional Expansion
• Momentum increases
• Break of prior range
• Cleaner structure
• Forms first pullbacks

Often sets the daily bias.
Best for structured continuation trades.

🇺🇸 New York — Volatility Engine
• Strong impulsive candles
• Continuation or sharp reversal
• Range expansion

Major moves often accelerate or complete here.
High opportunity. High risk.

🎯 Key Takeaway

A breakout in Tokyo is not the same as a breakout in New York.

Session context improves:
• Timing
• Patience
• Risk placement
• Trade quality

This is not a strategy.
It is a filter.

🛡 Trade structure.
Respect session behavior.
Avoid forcing volatility in low-energy hours.
