Trading the Market When Volume Kicks In
My trading strategy focuses on two specific time windows when I look for increased market activity and potential trading opportunities: the New York session from 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM and the Asian session from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, California time.
New York Session — 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM
This is my primary trading window. I focus on how price behaves as activity picks up during the U.S. morning. I watch for increased volume, stronger momentum, and price breaking through key support and resistance levels. I look for a clean breakout or a retest of a key level before considering an entry.
Asian Session — 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
During the Asian session, I monitor the market as activity develops into the evening. I watch for changes in volume, potential breakouts, and reactions around important support and resistance levels. I look for either a breakout or a retest, waiting for price action to provide a clear opportunity before entering.
My Trading Approach
Trade with a purpose: I focus on my designated trading windows instead of trading all day.
Watch volume: I look for volume to increase relative to recent activity, helping identify when participation may be picking up.
Respect key levels: I pay attention to support, resistance, and important price zones.
Look for a breakout or retest: I watch for price to break through a key level or return to a previously broken level before considering an entry.
Protect my capital: I define my stop-loss and target before entering and avoid forcing trades when the market is choppy.
My Philosophy
I don’t trade just because the market is open. I trade when my session, volume, and price action give me a reason to look for an opportunity.
My session indicator helps me stay disciplined by highlighting my preferred trading windows, keeping my attention on the times I have chosen to trade.
Note: These time windows are my preferred observation periods, not a guarantee of increased volume or profitable moves. Actual activity varies by instrument and day.
