Volume Pressure & Divergence [AFD]
Volume Pressure & Divergence [AFD] estimates whether the volume inside each candle traded on up moves or down moves. It shows the result three ways: two dials beside price, pressure clouds around price, and divergence marks at price swings. The aim is to show when a new price high or low arrives with stronger or weaker estimated volume pressure than the swing before it.
The dials
CURRENT PRESSURE is estimated signed volume as a percent of total volume on the latest candle, from -100 (all volume on down moves) to +100 (all on up moves).
AVG 14 PRESSURE sums signed and total volume over the last N candles; the number follows Pressure length, default 14. It is volume-weighted, so heavy candles count more than quiet ones.
Both dials scale from the most recent 100 candles, not the visible range. Gauge size offers Compact, Normal and Large.
The clouds
Boundaries are SMA(close, 20) ± 2 population standard deviations, so their width reflects closing-price dispersion.
The outline color follows the sign of AVG pressure, and its intensity follows the strength. The fill strengthens while a divergence is pending and for one candle when it confirms.
Divergence and confirmation
Bullish: a lower price pivot low with a higher AVG reading. Bearish: a higher pivot high with a lower AVG reading.
A label appears Pivot strength candles after the second swing (default 3), so marks lag the swing by that many closed candles. Labels sit about one ATR clear of the candles, joined to the swing by a dotted line.
A dashed line freezes the confirming level: the highest high or lowest low between the two swings. A diamond marks a later close beyond it, on a candle with volume, within the Confirmation window (default 20 candles).
A close beyond the second swing ends the setup, and a newer setup replaces it. If price already closed through the level before detection, the setup is marked unarmed.
The DIVERGENCE block under the dials shows the state: none, pending, confirmed, unarmed, ambiguous or unavailable. While pending, it shows the confirming level and the candles left.
Alerts: four conditions cover new and confirmed divergence on each side.
Charts and limits
Standard charts from 1m to 4h. One-minute charts need 10-second data; without it the script can stop with a platform error. Other chart types show an unavailable state.
The dials are drawn right of the latest candle, so the chart needs blank space there. Right gap and Vertical gap adjust the layout.
Direction is estimated from intrabar price moves. Orders, buyers and sellers are not observed.
