MHIDa Dead-Ends Reference

MHIDa Dead-Ends Reference is an educational context tool. It does not tell you what to buy or sell: it marks two classic setups that are often mistaken for an edge but tend to be traps when used naked, so you can recognise them and ask whether a real trigger exists.
WHAT IT SHOWS
- Trap A, naked dip-buy: the previous close is far below a reference EMA (default 20 bars, 8% distance), then a green candle follows. Marked with an orange '!' and a light orange background.
- Trap B, naked top-short: the previous close is far above the EMA (default 8%), the previous RSI (default 14) is hot (default 70 or more), then a red candle follows. Marked with a purple '!' and a light purple background.
Optional labels explain why each pattern is a trap, a small note sits in the top-right corner, and two alert conditions are available. The EMA is drawn as a grey line.
HOW IT WORKS
Everything is computed on closed bars, with no lookahead. Trap A: close[1] < EMA[1] x (1 - distance), then close > close[1]. Trap B: close[1] > EMA[1] x (1 + stretch), RSI[1] >= the hot level, then close < close[1]. The two checks are independent and are not combined into one score; they sit together only because they are the two most common naked mean-reversion setups, and the tool is meant as a side-by-side reminder of both.
WHY THESE ARE DEAD ENDS
A naked dip-buy in a trending market often just captures the pull of the trend: remove the bull phase and the apparent edge tends to vanish. A mean-distance idea can have value, but typically only after a strong trigger such as a capitulation or climax event. A naked top-short tends to be run over by a strong uptrend; a top-fade can work, but usually only with a calm filter and a well designed exit, because the edge lives in the exit, not in the entry.
HOW TO USE IT
When a marker appears, treat it as a question, not a trigger: is there a real trigger here, or is this just the naked pattern that historically fails? Adjust the EMA length, the distance and stretch percentages, the RSI level and the candle filters in the settings. Defaults are an educational starting point, not a recommended configuration.
LIMITS
No performance numbers are shown and none are claimed for any symbol or timeframe. This is not a signal and not financial advice. Direction markers are hidden on non-standard chart types (Heikin Ashi, Renko, Kagi, Point and Figure, Range). Pine Script v6.
