Kevin O'Leary Calls for Energy Security, CLARITY Act as US Faces Rising Power Demand and Crypto Competition: 'You Can't Have...'

Investor Kevin O’Leary urged the next Congress to prioritize reliable energy supplies and cryptocurrency regulation, arguing that both are essential to America’s economic productivity and global competitiveness.

O’Leary Calls For Stronger Energy Security

On Monday, in a post on X sharing a clip from his NewsNation interview, O’Leary outlined two priorities for the next Congress: energy security and the CLARITY Act.

“I want Congress to focus on two things: energy security and the CLARITY Act,” he wrote.

He added that the U.S. needs “reliable electricity to power the economy” because the grid is already stretched.

O’Leary also called for clear regulations governing digital payments and blockchain technology, arguing that businesses across all 11 economic sectors could use these technologies to improve productivity.

CLARITY Act Could Expand Blockchain Adoption

In the interview, he stressed the importance of energy security, saying, “You can’t have an economy without energy.”

He specifically advocated policies supporting natural gas as a source of electricity generation.

On cryptocurrency legislation, O’Leary said, “It’s not about Bitcoin at all. It’s about the use of digital payment systems and blockchain to advance all 11 sectors of the economy.”

He also pointed to the GENIUS Act, which established a regulatory framework for payment stablecoins, arguing that Congress still needed to pass the CLARITY Act.

“This isn’t about red or blue. It’s about helping America compete,” he wrote in his post.

Bloom Energy and Global Energy Security

Last month, Bloom Energy Corp. BE raised its 2026 guidance for the third time after strong quarterly results, while expanding projects with the U.S. Army, Google and American Electric Power. It also reported growing demand for its power systems.

In April, International Energy Agency chief Fatih Birol warned that the Strait of Hormuz disruption had triggered the worst energy security crisis in history, cutting global oil supply by 13 million barrels per day and raising concerns about inflation, economic growth and fuel shortages.

Coinbase Executives Weighed In on CLARITY Act

In September, Coinbase Global Inc. COIN policy chief Faryar Shirzad expressed cautious optimism that the CLARITY Act could advance but warned that disagreements over DeFi, exchange rules and President Donald Trump’s crypto interests could complicate its passage.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong also expressed confidence in the bill, saying federal agencies were prepared to introduce rules if it failed.

He added that Bitcoin’s cycle bottom was likely behind it and expected prices to rise over the next one to two years.
