Oracle Drops as AI Debt Carries a 37-Basis-Point Premium

Less than 1 min read

Oracle ORCL, the database and AI cloud provider, faced a tougher market for AI debt Wednesday as bond buyers demanded more compensation. Shares fell approximately 1.1% to $147.53. For a company building out cloud capacity, the price of borrowing is becoming harder to ignore.

The gap is striking. According to Reuters, spreads for AI related issuers averaged about 115 basis points, versus 78 basis points across the broader investment grade market. That is a 37 basis point difference, or roughly 47%. Those are market averages, though; they do not tell investors what Oracle itself would pay on a new bond.

Oracle reported $11.6 billion in quarterly cloud revenue, up 62%. The question now is how quickly that growth turns into cash as the company funds expansion. At $147.53, shares sit 23.29% below the $192.32 GF Value estimate. That gap may catch an investor's eye, but cloud growth and financing costs will determine whether it closes.
