Alphabet's Slips 2.8% as Claude Gets Cheaper

Less than 1 min read

Alphabet (GOOGL), Google's advertising, cloud and AI parent, added Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 to Google Cloud. The chart puts the shares at $337.6795, a decrease of 2.8%.

According to Anthropic, typical workloads cost 40% less to run than on Opus 5, and output arrives more than 30% faster. Input tokens cost $4 per million; output tokens cost $20 per million. Reuters also reported the launch. Faster and cheaper AI gives customers another reason to try Claude, but lower prices raise the bar for turning that demand into revenue.

Google can earn cloud revenue from customers who choose Claude even when they pass over its own Gemini models. The question is whether more usage and infrastructure spending make up for cheaper model calls. The chart adds a valuation check: its $251.63 GF Value sits 34.2% below the displayed share price, leaving investors little room for disappointing returns on AI spending.
