Intel’s Triple Digit Establishment

482
Intel broke out in April and May. It consolidated for the next two months, and now some traders may see potential for further upside.

The first pattern on today’s chart is the $100 price line. INTC broke that level on May 5 and made a higher low above it two weeks later. The stock probed below $100 on June 5, but quickly recovered. That was followed by a low of $104.41 on Wednesday.

Such a basing pattern above $100 may suggest the chipmaker has established itself in triple-digit territory.

Second is the falling trendline in May, which INTC broke in June and held this week. Has old resistance become new support?

Third, the bounce occurred near the bottom of the Keltner Channel and the rising 50-day simple moving average (SMA). That may be consistent with a pullback within the context of an intermediate-term uptrend.

Fourth, the 50-day SMA has stayed above the 100-day SMA. That could be consistent with a longer-term uptrend.

Next, stochastics have reached an oversold condition.

Finally, INTC is an active underlier in the options market. (Its average daily volume of 703,000 contracts ranks seventh in the S&P 500, according to TradeStation data.) That could help traders take positions with calls and puts.
