Script moderation on TradingView

This page is a complement to our Script Publishing Rules, General House Rules, and Vendor Requirements. It explains why we moderate scripts and how to handle moderation events.

Why are public scripts moderated?

Script authors on TradingView publish numerous indicators, strategies, and libraries to benefit other traders and coders in our community. Newcomers and experienced traders alike should be able to rely on this vast repository of scripts for helpful content and original, potentially useful trading and programming tools. Our script moderators help promote quality by curating public scripts using the criteria in our Script Publishing Rules and Vendor Requirements. Only those that meet these criteria become visible in our community feeds, including the Indicators and strategies pages and the "Community" tab of the "Indicators, metrics, and strategies" menu on Supercharts.

Think of Wikipedia. How can its content be so reliable when anybody can contribute? It's because editors work behind the scenes to validate new contributions. Our script moderators play a similar role to that of Wikipedia editors. In addition to promoting quality, accessibility, and usefulness, they also help protect our community from bad actors who aim to spam, scam, mislead, or otherwise harm our users.

Each year, authors in our community publish tens of thousands of public scripts. However, only a portion of those scripts are suggested. Others remain visible only on an author's profile, or are hidden from the community altogether, because they fail to follow our rules.

My script was moderated. What can I do?

If your script is hidden or unsuggested, you may receive a notification about the compliance issues that caused the event. Read any information you receive from our moderators carefully; do not ignore it. Aim to learn from any listed issues and prevent them in your future publications.

If you did not receive a notification about a moderated script, or if you're unsure about your script's compliance issues, you can send a message to the PineCoders moderator account. Our script moderators will be happy to help. We also recommend that you review our Script Publishing Rules and all other House Rules to understand our criteria and the reasons for your moderation event.

After you understand why your script is moderated, the next step depends on whether you want to achieve compliance and who will be using your script:

  • Following most moderation events, if you want your script to be suggested, you can create a new version of your publication with all necessary corrections. Moderators will approve the new version if it follows all House Rules.
  • If your script is unsuggested due to minor quality issues, such as a cluttered chart, you may be able to fix those issues directly by publishing a script update rather than creating a new publication.
  • You can choose not to address compliance issues in your publication if you wish. In that case, we recommend not publishing more scripts until you're ready to follow our rules. Intentionally or repeatedly failing to publish compliantly can result in bans from our social features.
  • If your script is intended for only a small group of friends, you can create a private version of your publication to share with them instead. Private scripts are not moderated, provided you keep them private to our community.
  • If your script is intended for personal use only, you don't need to publish it to use it. The original copy of your script exists in your personal library, unaffected by a publication. You can add the original copy to your chart from the "Personal" tab of the "Indicators, metrics, and strategies" menu. 

Publishing scripts and having them suggested in our feeds are privileges for users who respect our requirements and standards. They are not immutable rights granted simply for having a TradingView account. We encourage and appreciate your public script contributions, but please make sure those contributions follow our House Rules and respect our community values. 

How can I prevent my scripts from being moderated?

Ensure that you understand and commit to following our House Rules. Additionally, review your publications carefully while you draft them to correct any uncaught compliance issues before sharing them publicly. 

Before you publish a script, make sure you've read and understand the following:

  • Our Script Publishing Rules, which establish the core criteria for all script publications
  • Our Vendor Requirements, which include additional criteria for vendors providing access to invite-only scripts or other script-related products or services
  • Our General House Rules, which apply to every user on TradingView

Lastly, before you publish a public script, we recommend creating a private version first to ensure your publication appears as intended. You can edit the private script's title and description at any time, unlike a public script. Once you've verified that your drafted content is compliant, you can then create a public version of the publication when you're ready. Who are the script moderators?

Our script moderators are members of PineCoders, a group of expert Pine programmers who contribute to TradingView activities. Our script moderators regularly analyze public scripts to ensure compliance with our House Rules, and they answer questions about script publishing and moderation. Our moderators do not have time to help you with programming challenges or other off-topic questions. However, they will gladly help you with any questions about the publishing process, moderation events, our rules, or compliance.
