Flat top/bottom drawing tool

Application

The Flat top/bottom drawing tool is a channel instrument used to draw a shape that is completely flat at the top or bottom. It is highly useful for identifying potential areas of support and resistance that sit at a specific price level. By combining a horizontal boundary with an angled trendline on the opposite side, it is perfect for spotting consolidation zones and formations such as ascending or descending triangles.

To draw a Flat top/bottom pattern, select the tool from the drawing panel. Click on the chart to set the starting point, drag your cursor to set the length and angle of the primary trendline, and click a third time to place the flat, horizontal boundary at the desired price level.

Style

In the Style properties dialog, it is possible to change the visual appearance of the Flat top/bottom tool:

  • Line: Allows you to change the color, opacity, thickness, and style (solid, dashed, dotted) of the borders. You can also toggle markers (such as points) at the start and end of the lines.
  • Extend: Offers a dropdown menu to extend the channel lines indefinitely to the left, right, or both sides.
  • Prices: Toggles the visibility of price value labels for the tool's boundaries. You can also adjust the label's text color, font size, and apply bold and/or italic formatting.
  • Background: Toggles the visibility, color, and opacity of the channel's interior background fill.

Text

Allows you to type custom text that will be attached to the drawing and modify its color, opacity, and font size, as well as bold or italicize it.

In Text alignment, you can change the position and alignment of the text relative to the channel.

Visibility

In the Visibility properties dialog, you can switch the Flat top/bottom tool displaying on charts of different chart intervals.
