Volume is now available for more NSE stock indices on TradingView

Dec 19, 2025

Volume adds crucial data to your market analysis, offering essential context behind price movements and helping traders assess the strength of trends. On TradingView, volume data has already been available for India’s two most actively followed indices: Nifty 50 and Nifty Bank Index.

Today, we’re taking the next step. We’ve expanded volume coverage to include a wide range of additional NSE stock indices, making it easier to analyze sectoral activity, broader market participation, and intraday dynamics, all directly from your charts.

How index volume is calculated

Since NSE does not provide official volume figures for indices, we implemented a transparent, rules-based calculation methodology.

Index volume is calculated as the sum of the trading volumes of all index components relevant on the calculation date:

  • Daily resolution: the index volume equals the sum of daily volumes of all constituent stocks
  • Intraday (minute-based) resolutions: the volume is calculated as the sum of component volumes for each corresponding minute
  • Other resolutions are aggregated using the same logic

If the index composition changes, the volume calculation automatically adjusts to reflect the updated set of components.

This approach ensures consistency across timeframes and allows you to analyze index activity with the same confidence as individual stocks.

Newly supported NSE indices

In addition to Nifty 50 (NSE:NIFTY) and Nifty Bank Index (NSE:BANKNIFTY), volume data is now available for the following NSE indices:

Volume is available on all chart resolutions, allowing for both intraday and long-term analysis.

You can find the volume data on the symbol pages in the Key data points section, or display it on the Supercharts with the Volume indicator.

We’ll continue expanding volume coverage across additional NSE indices over time. Remember, TradingView connects to hundreds of data feeds, giving direct access to more than two million instruments worldwide — making us the only entry point you need for everything on the world’s markets.
